How interesting, the number of people who feel the need to 'trash' a show, before its even been shown on ITV!

It'll be on ITV, therefore it will be trash.

The fact that you even had to tell her that, Nick, makes the phrase 'such ignorance is frightening' spring to mind.

This is intresting.. Although I agree that everyone should have their say I do think that some of the comments on this site are rather personal and thought I would share my views.

I myself (I'm 22) have been dancing since the age of 5 and have never regretted a single moment. I started dancing because like every little girl I wanted to dance and I fell into Bllroom and latin dancing. Since then I have had some amazing experiances that I would never trade for anything and the 1 thing that I thank it for is the drive and passion that I now have which has transfered into so many other aspects of my life. My Mum never pushed me however enjoyed watching me do something that I was talented at.

As for dressing up small children in short skirts and high heels I dare you to watch the show on Sat and you will see this is not true. All these children are under the age of 12. There are strict rules in place to restrict the clothing the young girls wear (i e length of skirt, neck lines and material) heel hight (the shoes for under 12's are very much flat) and make up that the girls are allowed to wear. Dresses have to be of plain material and young girls are unable to wear over the top acessories etc! Yes I admit these girls do wear makeup in the form of a small amount of blusher and lip gloss however it is frowned upon if these young children are made up to much! It is no different than the outfits that ballet dancers wear!

I feel that sometimes people take their perspective of the dance form from what they see adults do. The children's steps are restricted which means they are unable to do the moves that you would see on The Celebrity Come Dancing and very tastefull. It is very basic and only when they turn 12-13 do the routines get more complicated however still very basic.

This form of dance is amazing and guess what the British are very good at it (we have been world champions many times) and I think we should be proud of that.

Like in any sport yes you do get your pushy mothers and unfortunatly that is a fact of life however I feel it is unfair to pressume that Kool and the other parents on this show push their children. I have seen 90% of the children on this show dance over the years and hand on my heart they love it.. Watch their faces on Sat night! In my dance school over the last 2 years I have seen Ballroom dancing beciome more and more poular thanks to shows on the BBC and ITV which quite frankly is great.

I do agree that our TV is full of reality TV shows of the same concept however there must be a reason that these shows are on the air....

On another note I have had the pleasure over many years watching Ray Quinn dance and he was 1 talented boy!

Don't hate me because of what I said just my opinion remember.

I once had a chance to enrol with the Royal school of dancing many years ago i turned it down, because i didn't want it as much as my parents wanted it for me. They then turned their attentions towards my sporting abilities. My dad and i argued for weeks over my choice of career. He would have thrown every penny he had at me to persue a future in athletics.
I don't regret it either because i knew my parents would have been wasting their money because although i was good at it, i didn't enjoy it. And you can't put a price on happiness.

So at 22 and teaching kids to dance for a living. How come we're not seeing you on that Dance X crap.

We're mainly discussing the merits of the show (it has none) rather than the practice itself - and no one is insulting the children, it's the pushy parents who disturb most of us.

I'd guess generally speaking they're the sort of people who think it's OK to leave their kids home alone while they go off and have a meal in a restaurant a quarter of a mile away.

Why do you assume that because a child is sucessful at something that their parents are "pushy"?? Some could be, the majority are not but we are not all the same. What I do know without any shadow of a doubt is that any parent who supports their child to achieve a high level at any sport or hobby or talent gives a great deal of themselves, their lives and their time to support and encourage their child both emotionally as well as financially.

So if you are stupid enough to believe that these same parents who devote much of their lives to their kids are going to leave them home alone whilst they swan off to a restuarant, then you I am afraid are truly living in cloud cuckoo land. We don't go to restaurant's, we can't afford them, we spend our disposable income on our children and keeping them healthy, happy and out of mischief is our main priority in life!!!!

I am not a parent of one of the kids on the show, although I do know some of the children and their families. My dancing daughter is now grown up and still dancing. She has a wonderful life travelling around Europe taking part in competitions and loves every minute of the time she spends dancing. She has many friends, did very well in school and college and is a lovely well adjusted young person who has never been in trouble, taken drugs, mugged old ladies or nicked cars!! I am totally convinced that this is due to the fact that she has never had time to get bored nor roam the streets, because every spare minute of her time has been spent dancing.

Anyway back to the topic in question which is the show, firstly I think that perhaps people should watch the first episode before making assumptions or judgements. I doubt very much that ITV would have made the decision to air this on prime time TV if they didn't think that it would have appeal with a wide audience. I am sure that a lot of young people are going to enjoy it and probably lots of middle age and older folk as well. In today's world of digital and satellite TV nobody is forced to watch anything that dosn't interest them.

I watch very little TV nowadays, again I have more important things in my life, but I will confess to watching and absolutely loving a number of these types of shows, Strictly Come Dancing, X Factor, Britain's Got Talent, Strictly Dance Fever, Grease is the Word, to name a few. Yes obviously I have an interest in dance so enjoy watching that in all forms but the main reason that I like these type of shows is that they are good clean family entertainment, which families can sit and watch and enjoy together. There is no violence, blood, gore, murders or swearing and I for one do find this type of family show entertaining.

I believe that many of the problems we have in this country today are caused by the lack of good old fashioned family values, too many parents are more concerned for their own needs and entertainment than they are for their childrens, it is this type of parent that is in the pub whilst their kids are roaming the streets in gangs causing havoc and grief to responsible citizens. If those parents spent evenings at home with their children watching good famility entertainment on TV or encouraging them to participate in sport we might have a lesser crime rate amongst young people.

I wish all the children taking part in the show the very best of luck, I know you will all dance your hearts out and hopefully may be be able to change the preconveived ideas that some viewers may have about children dancing.

Perhaps we should ask ourselves why the original Come Dancing was the longest running TV programme in England??

Because it wasn't trash, which is what the vast majority of modern dance shows are like ( DanceX , Britain's Got Talent etc.) I'm not saying the people on them aren't talented, it's just that the programmes are often poorly made, over sensationalised and emotionalised, and sometimes just feel like an attempt to cash in on a fad.

Oh will you all sod off. Why don't you write a letter to Take a Break or something because your "Single mum gossiping and bitching" is not welcome here.

And there is the proof you have no clue what you are talking about. ITV regularly commission absolute crap which members here instantly identify as being a flop just from the blurb about the show released before hand - and 95% of the time, we're usually right, from Celebrity Wrestling to Tycoon.

It's a show running for three weeks in the low rating summer schedule - that's how confident ITV are it'll be a huge success. Wink

Do you wish to know something my dear.

Why are you spending all your time typing on here, when you should be supervising your children you negligent parent.

Oh and by the way, I think you'll find that "The sky at night" was, and still is the longest running TV programme.

Not round mine, but either way well-adjusted, academically successful young adults are perfectly achievable without the parents being pushy.

And would you like to know something 'dearie'.... she already stated her Daughter is grown up Wink

No, I'm not a dancer. No, my children aren't competitive dancers.

I can't believe the absolute carp I'm reading on this forum! It's just a television show highlighting the brilliant talent of children dancing dances that have been around for absolutely years and years and are still being enjoyed by every generation today both competitively and socially.

It's just dancing not child pornography, murder or grand theft. It's a sporting hobby.

The funniest part of all of this is that you as viewers have a choice. Watch or don't watch. It's not compulsary to watch television at all and by the looks of it here you all moan about every television program going so why not throw your TV's in the bin and strap barbed belts to your inner thighs!

I look forward to your ensuing insults as the regular members here seem to be quite adept at that Wink Laughing
