I have been watching the Cricket. A stream put on by someone in Ballarat, Victoria. Over the Channel 9 DOG on the right hand corner - the nine dots are there but WIN is over the 9. I know that WIN stations have Channel 9 in Eastern Australia but even in their program promos in the breaks WIN is always mentioned not 9. Doesn't all this confuse and downgrade the Channel 9 identity in parts of Australia?

Win is not Channel 9 though, it is an affiliate network. It carries 9 Network programming.

WIN is owned by WIN corporation; they used to widely use a modified version of the Nine Network logo on all its stations, regardless of if they were a sole Nine Network affiliate or not. However, they presently use a logo without the nine balls most of the time.

WIN has got a terrible track record when it comes to station identification. The network uses watermarks on all programs, and uses special watermarks for news, sports and live programming. They often coverup Nine's own logos during such broadcasts. Their Australian map watermark was once a target of hate mail to the station, but in further use, the watermark has been changed to be more appealing to the viewer. Also, they change the production end boards of the Nine Network to their own.

Larry Edmur, the host of The Price Is Right will be retireing from television, at the age of only 40. This is due to the axing of Ther Price Is Right (again). Filming will end next week.

I'm done. I'm retiring," Emdur said yesterday. "It is pretty emotional ... the end of an era really.

"The show's been a tremendous part of my life on and off for the past 12 years."

Thanks for the info. On the Cricket yesterday the Nine dots were showing on the DOG the 'WIN was just over the '9'. I'm amazed that Channel 9 let WIN do this. I can only think it's because WIN own so many TV stations that affiliate to Channel 9. As I said before, all the program promos say WIN not 9. The only time 9 was mentioned was during National 9 News which was shown during the break in Cricket.

Last I heard, !!!WIN Television had had a bad reputation, particularly with how it approaches digital television, even with how it resizes widescreen broadcasts to fit into 4:3 tv screens. And yes, with the watermark, too!

''Quoted from WIN''

I don't know if !!!WIN had since improved anything else, other than its watermark...

Notice over at Digital Spy that Australia will have their own Comic Relief from this year, beginning next month and airing on Seven!

Hopefully Australia's idea of a telethon is the same as ours - not a one-hour broadcast as in the US!

The 7 Perth and NBN TV telethons are very popular. Every year millions of dollars are raised.

Well they are just an affiliate. WIN and affiliates like it have contracts with nine to exclude the logo so that they can create their own local brand. Same with Prime and seven.

Its also why any ECPs that play in primetime dont have any network logos or any meantion of the network ie tarther than the voice over saying "cold case continues next monday on nine" it will just say "cold case continues next monday" to keep it affiliate safe.

Well it's an end of an era for Australian Morning Television:

Ten's Bert Newton and GMA to sign off

Veteran Australian TV star Bert Newton will leave the Ten Network when his show Good Morning Australia ends in December after a 14-year run.

Network Ten CEO Grant Blackley said it had fought hard to retain Mr Newton, but it was the star's decision to make the break.

"We have been in genuine negotiations with Bert for more than three months with a view to signing him to a new contract (and) have put forward a range of ideas and program opportunities to him, recognising his enduring position as one of Australia' - and Ten's - highest calibre stars," Mr Blackley said in a statement on Wednesday.

"We are proud of Bert's accomplishments with GMA and of his work on so many programs for Ten and the industry at large."

Newton said he was proud of what he had achieved with GMA but it was time to move on.

"Fourteen years is a long time for any television show and this one was very special to me," he said.

"In making my decision, I felt with the show going to end, it made sense for me to make the break, too. I leave Ten with some great memories."

Blackley said Ten was developing a new daytime program to replace GMA, starting in 2006.

"There could never be a GMA without Bert Newton," he said.

"We will launch something completely new."

The final episode of GMA, a gala celebration of 14 years, will screen in early December.

No it's 2 hours on Sunday, it's not a red nose day thing like in the UK. However they were giving out red socks this morning outside the Channel 7 Sunrise studio.
