Is the Bill as popular in Australia as they say?

The Bill is the ABC's top rated drama. It has plenty of merchandising back up and various members of the cast regulalrly tour Aus, make chat show appearances etc. The Beech spin off filmed in Aus was deliberatley made to reflect The Bill 's poularity 'down under' .

If only the ABC was having an Australian Drama success. Currently there's a big financial crisis with the ABC and it's drama content has gone from 120 hours a year to 20 hours a year.

Why?

yes why?
The state broadcaster shouldn't be biased towards any particular party !
and I don't think the ABC is Liberal biased particularly - they are usually bashed by the government for not supporting them enough!

who's covering the ashes in Australia and is it in widescreen?
AB
ABC Australia
SBS TV is covering The Ashes and yes it's in widescreen.
And to the reason as why the ABC is sometimes accused of bias against the "ruling" Coalition of ABC (and SBS) haters is because they hate each other so badly. The ABC has cut it's drama quotent to just 14 hours this year! $600 MILLION was allocated to the ABC this year in the Federal Government's Budget. This is a decrease of almost 30% ever since John Howard came into government and guess what's on HIS upcoming agenda: PRIVATISATION Evil or Very Mad
