I remember a few months ago, during an important England football match, I was watching News 24, and as England scored a goal, the whole of the newsroom cheered, as Carl Kirkwood was doing the weather.

I also remember another time when they cut to the weather and Elizabeth Saaray was crouched down on the telephone, the output suite cut to the sting and then went back after some trailers.

In fact last night, when Nina Ridge came on with the weather, her mic wasn't working, so they cut to the sting, played a few trailers and went back to her. I've always wondered what would happen in the event of the news presenter's mic not working, if there was no sound at all, would they cut to a sting, and would they have to repeat the story, so the viewer can hear it, or would they just carry on.

Yep, I remember that one Rob with Elizabeth, was very funny.  It looked like she was ordering a meal over the phone!  In fact I think it was yourself who captured the mistake, was it not?

Yes thats right Gary, it was me - I think its still floating around in cyberspace somewhere!

It is available for instant access for 2 hours - the video servers record a continuous loop of the programme to enable live interviews to be turned around.

The taped PasB's are kept in the Newsroom for 3 months then sent to the library, so the answer is indefinately

The recordings are pre the DSKs, so no astons, clock or DOG is recorded

There was a fantastic clip just now on IBAOTN13 - the weather presenter was fighting against the wind with her umbrella, and ended up pulling over the equipment and knocking the camera - with the superimposed weather map still on screen.

The Radio Times are saying that this is a new program, when it's a repeat from August! Strange...

Aunties Bloomers would be a lot better if they got rid of Wogan, and put more of the clips in to show the context.

You must be kidding! I think Wogan is great, the way he changes the tone of his voice, his sly glances into other cameras and the Gaby Roslin jokes always make me laugh!

Are you taking the **** ? http://web.ukonline.co.uk/tv.home/forum/emoticons/biggrin.gif

Seriously, I suppose it depends if you like Wogan or not (I don't mind him really, I just find him superfluous). But they really do need to show more of the clips. I'm interested in more than 'ha ha, do you see what happened! There was a funny noise and everything and it was like, you know, really funny and stuff!'

So that explains Louis Theroux Meets The Hamiltons then.

I'm surprised the taped PasB's (learnt a new word today!) are kept - I thought there wouldn't be room to keep them all. But I'm glad they are.

I don't think the whole output is kept forever. After three months the output is classified and only a selection is archived, depending on how historic that days events have been

True - Wogan always manages to see the sad and boring point of it.

Well the PasBs are recorded on DVCPro/DVCam large tapes - which can store upto three hours and are about 1/3 the size of a VHS E180 - so they don't take a HUGE amount of space! (Though neither is it negligible)

Ah, so when there are problems like the bomb at the BBC in March, is this how they manage to play recorded news bullitins, by using there tapes?

Must be Gary. BTW: on the subject of the BBC Bomb, did all the BBC's newsrooms in TV Centre have to be evacuated? I specifically mean the world newsroom because I thought BBC World coverage went out on News 24!
