It's all cropped. Boo hiss etc

I'm not really sure it is. We're all used to fully right-angled TV screens these days so it's easy to forget that around 1981, the shape of the screen cut off more of the edge of the picture.

A lot of old TVs would have displayed the globe like that though!

I remember when Countdown first started, our old Ferguson Colourstar (which had had a tube replacement that was badly set up) would crop the first and last letters in their entirety from the display at the bottom of the screen. We assumed at the time that it was Channel Four's doing, until the telly blew up again and was replaced with a new one.

I must admit I missed some of tonight's episode *notes to watch it on iPlayer*, however it seemed like a good start. I guess they've ensured no chance of Sam Tyler appearing in this series, in person at least.

Well they said his body is lost, so you never know. I wouldn't rule it out - maybe in the last ever episode (if it gets more than this one series)

Good introductory episode - nice to see an appearance from Zippy & George, and I thought the ending scene made use of the closedown to good effect too.

Yes, I enjoyed it too. Smile

Good to see them being able to show the credits without squeezing them into a tiny segment on the ECP.

Really enjoyed this! Great show, some great dialogue and action to be had.

The only thing which i didn't really like was the fact that she 'knew' where she was straight away. I personally would have preferred it if she was as confused as Sam was at first, but then actually be reminded of Sams experience later in the episode when she hears Sam mentioned in conversation, or perhaps seeing a picture of him on the wall. When she sees it, it all comes back to her and she then suddenly realises who all the people are. I just thought that her reacting so quickly when hearing 'Gene Hunt' was a bit forced really. I mean it's not as if she knew what he looked like, he could have been 'any' Gene Hunt. Know what i mean?

Looking forward to the rest of the show though definitely Smile

That would have been retreading the same path as Life on Mars.
Kudos 9see what I did there? Wink ) to them for trying something different.

To me it makes perfect logic, because she's a psychiatrist ("psychologist!") who has studied Sam's case and believes she's recreated Sam's 'fantasy' because of that. Studying her parallel and yet different ways of reacting to the change is an interesting twist for me.

As someone who loved Life on Mars and thought it was the best British TV drama in the last 10 years, I was left a little cold by it, I must admit.

I'm going to stick with it for a couple of episodes more - it might improve. It lacked the ballsiness and shock value of the first episode of LOM, imo.

I loved it. Absolutely loved it. Like Neil, I'm pleased they made our hero know exactly where she was right from the start. As someone who gets inside the minds of criminals it was entirely right that she should recognise all the "players" in her own fantasy immediately.

I suppose (and hope) that Sam will turn up somewhere along the route home.

I had missed the final episode of LoM, so I'm glad it was shown on BBC4 afterwards.

Top telly!
