Is there really any competition in the transmission sector anyway?

Very much so at present remember a few months ago the BBC announced that they'd dropped their traditional supplier NGW for the DTT network and moved to Arqiva.

Yes, but there are very few other contracts like that left and they are few and far between

The number of commercial radio stations use NGW for their transmission is very low. (and quite a few of them are ex-BBC legacy transmitters such as Virgin, Talksport). One of the companies NTL/Arqiva was more compitative than Crown Castle/NGW who didn't really seem to bother that much in trying to get new contracts

London Stock Exchange Notice

UK's Office of Fair Trading (OFT) said it is considering whether a relevant merger situation has been created, in relation to the completed acquisition by Macquarie UK Broadcast Ventures Ltd of National Grid PLC's UK wireless business.

OFT said if such a merger situation is found relevant, it will further consider whether this could result in a substantial lessening of competition in the UK that warrants reference to the Competition Commission for investigation and report.
