Are there too many channels?

And if so, which ones would you close? (December 2015)

This looks like a personal stab at me.

I'm well aware that the vast majority of people dislike difficult questions about technical matters that cannot easily be answered...

...but that does not mean than one should automatically refrain from asking such questions.

Anyway, I suspect that the OP has asked his - rather open ended - question to the wrong audience. What is required are people who are very knowledgeable about the various satellite and cable TV channels out there who are able to comment on their various merits and shortcomings.

Brand loyalty and focus counts for a lot. There could be one channel with a very small audience but there could be very high demand for the services the channel provides from its audience. There could be another channel with a larger audience but one that shows little brand loyalty by just watching programmes on that channel when there is nothing else interesting on the channels that they usually watch.

Actually you'd most likely find out quite a lot of technical information on here if you were to just stop and take a look at the posts not just on this thread, but others as well.

You've got answers on here from people who have been on here for over a decade but you come back with flippant remarks. Not the best impression I would want to make for a relatively new member...

Well I'm sorry but nobody is obliged to, and quite frankly they probably won't. I'm not sure if you realise how some of your posts are coming across to others Riaz, but it's not great. For the sake of sanity (if only what little I have) I'm locking this thread as I doubt any more useful discussion is likely to occur.
