Mods you can close this really - its nothing but a protest topic because certain people persist in creating polls for no reason!

Is getting to the point where I'm just ignoring polls, this is obviously the exception.

There's an argument for them, but considering the vast majority of members around here have a mental age of around 7, they're certain to be 'abused' in one way or another.

Get rid of them.

Can we do a seperate dedicated forum for polls and nothing but polls?

How about axing them completly - they are only used by people like savagegardenkid to boost their post count!

To be honest Jamez, I do find them interesting, to see what the majority believe in here about things. It helps me get to know what they feel about certain aspects of presentation.

What we've got to do, instead of axing them completely is maybe draw some guidelines up about their creation and usage.

Draw up guidelines? I got shot down for trying to declare what common sense was when I last tried that! Smile

I see everyone's point but out of the last 111 threads only 15 of them were polls which I don't think is that many and some of them do turn out just as interesting as normal threads.

I'm not personally a fan but there won't be a separate forum for them. If anyone can think of sensible guidelines/rules at to their use which members would be able to stick to then please do post them here.

Cheers, Asa

How dare you!!

I feel really offended by this. I am only doing this to get people's opinions.

I hope you don't talk to me that again.

Right, well, if you care to remember, it was I who installed the poll feature. And the reason for this was to get more-or-less instant feedback to a question.

I have seen some pointless posts recently, such as polls which ask more than one question, when clearly only one answer is available.

Also polls are good for getting opinions on something.

Don't use polls just for the sake of it though, yes polls can give you a graphical representation of the amount of people who think a certain thing, but standard posts can give much more information, for example, a reason.

e.g.

Poll -

'Should polls be removed' - two answers, yes or no.

If it is a post, with the same topic, someone could say 'yes, because.....'

That was what I thought the polls would be used for when I installed the feature - so people could get a yes/no style feedback, however still use the reply feature so users can elaborate.

Pointless polls are as bad as pointless posts, they use up bandwidth and waste peoples time reading them.

Just my opinion. Smile
