I know NBC are doing the American version in the New Year, and I understood the BBC were planning it for 2008, after doing Joseph in 2007, but ITV seem to have got in their first!
Great to see more "me too" broadcasting by ITV. This is perhaps the most obvious case of copycat TV in recent years, as you can only see that the two programmes will have to virtually identical.
At least ITV can be assured that NOBODY will try and copy their "vote an animal into extinction" concept.

David Ian has split from Lloyd Webber who worked togther on Maria and he will be producing the West End version of Grease and so has taken the format to ITV and brought in Syco / Talkback. He has also taken it to NBC where it starts in January, with Denise Van Outen as host.
Is it really any different to any of the other programmes that transfer between channels ? I guess it's about who 'owns' the format.

It appears though the BBC are producing the NBC version.
The format is unoriginal though it be very difficult to get any lawsuit off the ground as there are so many shows with similar set ups about.
