Has anyone ever seen the ellen talk show from the states. I look forward to getting over to the states every year to watch it. She uses a live DJ and dances with the audience. Does anthony still do this? He did on the preview on youtube. I'm on UTV so can't get it here.

Ellen DeGeneres (or "Generous" as they say in the states) is imo very good - it has the right amount of comedy, music, guests and audience participation. Whats particularly of note is the way she randomly gives all her audience a gift each show .. i.e. "Everybody in the audience gets a free ticket to Disneyland" or "Free shopping voucher for Macys" - thats something that I don't think ITVs budget will ever stretch for but it would bring a different element to their shows.

Except it wouldn't be different would it. Because she's already done it. Sheesh.

Well the show does prove whoever voted for him as a singer clearly were deaf.

Oh SNAP! I was about to say Ellen, Anthony's show is a poor man's Ellen Degeneres, at least her DJ has a classy stand and she's original.

If they just stopped him warbling at the start, unplugged the DJ, and perhaps cut down the silly "end of show games" bit to only twice a week it might be OK.

He clearly manages to chat to people quite naturally, so if they choose the right guests and get him some decent researchers for the interview topics then it might be alright as banal brain-fodder as people get home from work and are making dinner.

I know what you meant little boy. And it is just copying ideas. You people slag off programme makers for their lack of original concepts - I don't see much here.

I caught all of it yesterday, and he's a natural chatter I agree. Not a natural at delivering gags off an autocue; last night he did it in a way that clearly indicated he didn't write the "jokes"-- he's hardly Dara O'Brien in that respect Laughing

I'm still undecided at the mo-- I'm trying to like it! I don't think his singing is too bad, I've heard far worse on TV (eh Mrs Beckham Wink ).

Good, I'm glad you knew what I meant. No need to be quite so rude in future.

We slag off programme makers if the programme is crap. An Ellen type show could be copied in the UK - why not? providing its equally entertaining, has the right host and has a original feel to it.

As for Anthony Cotton, I don't like the bloke but if his show is doing well then fair enough - I'm not going to raid the streets of London with banners to try and get the show off the air even if it is a copycat format.

Its all opinion at the end of the day.

A few contradictions there hmm? You want him to copy a US show but he's already a copycat format (of Paul O'Grady one might presume)?

Maybe if he just shut up, and let the guest speak more often instead of telling us stuff about him that is of little interest to anyone but him.

And it would help if he didnt get the audience to clap every few minutes "Oo look a teabag, a round of applause everyone"

I can understand people with talent having self importance, but with him it just isn't working. Dame Edna can do it, as she's a character he's never played a character so I doubt he'd know how.
