Well Antony Cotton has spoken a few times about his admiration of Larry Grayson, but I would imagine Mr Grayson would be on spin-cycle in his grave if he saw this
I think comparing AC to Larry Grayson, would be like comparing Jane McDonald to Dusty Springfield!!

What gets me though is Paul O'Grady's show is getting dated and needs new fresh ideas yet along comes ITV with a format pretty much exactly the same but with an even poorer Larry Grayson-style of campness.
I'm not knocking Larry Grayson (or literally!) but you get what i mean.

Am I the only one who doesnt think this is bad for what its trying to be. Yes he does seem camp, but thats what people know already, they're watching it because they enjoy the character that he plays in Corrie, which seems to be the way he's doing the programme.
I do think that they are doing a good job with what they are doing. There are some bits like the theme tune which is quite bad but ends up in your head, the singing at the start and the DJ.
True it may be their interpretation of what O'Grady is already doing, which people on here have said is a tired format, but it still entertains plenty of people, and in this grim world, and with little entertainment on these days, people need to break away, even if just for an hour.
The only thing that I don't like is the lack of live TV, as the pre recorded jumps, etc are very identifiable.

Yes, but poor excuse though, I mean at the end of the day its merely a copycat format and in production terms - very lazy.

But technicly isnt The New Paul O'Grady Show a copy cat format of an ITV show?

Technically , no because the people who devised The Paul O'Grady Show in the first place are still producing it on Channel 4, namely Robert Gray.

I have watched That Antony Cotton Show now since Monday. At first I hated it and thought it was an ITV rip-off of Paul O'Grady.
But now am just about tolerating it. I think Antony needs to settle into the show. It does last for another 4 weeks.
I remember that Paul O'Grady got critised for his first week on ITV1 in October 2004 but now he is a very good and successful teatime chat show host.
Maybe Antony Cotton does need time to settle in. What do others think?
