Very very sad news, it was known that he wasn't too well, but this is awful. Such a great loss to the Manchester music scene and a great loss to Regional Television in the North West, he made such an impact and it was a shame he never got to carry on with new projects such as his BBC Radio Manchester show, The Politics Show and a new show on Channel M that looked very promising.

He was on Granada Reports a few weeks ago and he looked very ill, but he had hope and he made some good points about the lack of funding for the cancert drug on the NHS in Greater Manchester.

If you can try and listen to BBC Radio Manchester at the moment as they're running an Anthony Wilson Tribute programme and Terry Christian and Gordon Burns have both been on and sound very sad.

Yes I think he presented a few national programmes too, he used to be on in the summer on a programme which use to give out careers guidance for people who were getting their A levels etc in the 90s.

Ah yes, I've just realised who this guy is - didn't he appear on Richard and Judy a few times?

I would like to add my own Tribute to Tony Wilson.

I have just logged on and read this tragic news and I am upset about this.

I will add something Tomorrow.

He did, and what's worse he had to fund his own treatment (relying on donations from friends and family) because his local primary care trust refused to fund it.

Maybe it's not the place to get political here but it's high time those morons at NICE rebranded themselves with a far less offensive name.

Although it seems he died as a result of a heart attack which happened on Thursday. Sad that he managed to get together funding for the treatment he needed, and then died of something else.

Very sad news, I had no idea he was ill

That's insane. What was the reason Confused

Penny-pinching bureaucrats.

That is terrible news...I was in the North West region when he appeared on NWT and was stunned at how poorly he was. He was a character and a good ambassador for Manchester - indeed the North West. Let us hope lessons can be learned - and good on him for fighting his corner - especially when he was clearly so ill at the time.
RIP Tony Wilson!!

He was offered a job once at ITN but turned around as he didn't want to leave the North West. A big shame and a big loss.

I'm very sad to hear this news that Tony has dies.

One of my fondest memories is from a few years ago when he was heard saying 'F**k off' or something like that on the 3pm Granada news, then he was banned from Granada Reports at 6pm.

Anyone else remember that

It's such a shame that he has died. I expect Granada will be a quiet place today.

Have just found this online - one final look around Granada with Antony Wilson.

RIP, mate.

Yes, it was me who reported that incident to this forum right after it happened! It was quite an outburst, I'd never heard anything like it (on television, anyway!).

To be serious, I am deeply saddened to hear of Tony's passing and my sincere condolences to Yvette and his 2 children.

He was a one- off and a very special guy. Things will never be quite the same again.
