Apparently Stars in their Eyes is just "taking a break" which surprised me as I thought it was axed for good. Perhaps they're just waiting for the right host for it.

I heard that about Stars in their Eyes. Its Granada Manchester though isnt it?

Yes it is. Kate Thornton will probably get the gig and they'll play around with the format - Stars In Their Eyes: The Battle - where two acts have to compete against each other etc thus consequently it won't work and the show will be axed altogether anyway.

Look what happened to Blind Date, as soon as they messed that format up with Date or Ditch, Cilla got angry, the show dated itself (excuse the pun) and was no more. But I suppose you could argue Blind Date had had its day anyway.

I agree Ant and Dec's Saturday Night Takeaway is the only remaining show from the traditional LWT-style entertainment shop and says a lot about how Saturday night TV has transformed just within the last 5 years.

Was the hypnotism in wedding daze meant to be believable?
Sounded like aload of old carp to me.

I really need to start getting out on a sturday night.

Now ITV can't rip people off with phone competitions, though they do make the series where profits go to charity as short as possible, they seem to be taking advantage of the good old transmission delays when it comes to the Mouse Trap, so often by the time the contestant hears they've got just a few seconds to get out, the time has already elapsed, saving ITV up to £5000.

Yeah, something dodgy there possibly. These first two shows have seemed to struggle along anyway IMO.

Now I still enjoy the show and I'm not saying there's moments that are still funny ala David Dickinson spilling drinks but Paul Daniels playing Dodgeball...? I hope theres a task one week that involves magic and illusions for his sake - its cringeable!

Still, it'll probably improve next week, they've got names like Girls Aloud and Jeff Goldblum on the show again. Westlife will appear one week as if they haven't already (they're on so many shows I've forgotten!).

That woman seemed fairly unimpressed by that blokes marriage proposal didn't you find?

For me the show has become background TV, I'm in and out of the lounge while its on.

It used to be a show that I would sit down and watch without fail before going out, now I'm not bothered if its on or not.

The start time of the show also changes every week, it was 8.15pm first week, 7.30pm last night and now 6.45pm next week.

Noel's House Party for me also suffered the same symptoms. It used to be must see tv but then towards the end of its run, would only catch it if I was in the room if my other folk had it on.

I'm certain there was an article on MediaGuardian from a couple of months ago that said Stars in their Eyes wouldn't be returning, but considering they've not shown any episodes for 2 years at least, that the show has become poor since Matthew Kelly quit, and the fact that Cat Deeley is now pretty much working in the USA full time.

Never say Never!!!

Opportunity knocks came back
New Faces came back
I believe that Five tried (and probably still are trying) to bring back Popstar/Pop Idol

Gladiators IS coming back

It's only a matter of time.

I also want to believe that within 5 years the old Saturday shows could make a retro-comeback such as Don't try That at Home, You Bet!, Blind Date. - just like some "gameshows" that have appeared on Gameshow Marathon.

Is there going to be a new series of GM - I'd love to see Gambit, Crosswits, Runway, Connections, Celebrity Squares, Winner Takes All and The 64,000 Question in the series!
