Indeed they did. Obviously they will be back with I'm A Celebrity before hand, but the show will be back in the new year.
Thinking about it, what a January line up that would be (if they come back at the start of the year that is) with TV Burp, Dancing on Ice, Ant & Dec, and isn't there a new series of The Pub Landlord?
Though it does beg a question, why don't ITV bother that much with Christmas specials of programmes, you never get a year when all of their big shows have christmas specials, its just odd ones.
Last year there was a TV Burp Christmas special, the year before Ant & Dec.

Ant and Dec is one show that should warrant an annual Christmas special.
On the broader question, in years gone past Christmas specials were often celebrity specials - but in recent years they happen so often throughout the year they're just a non-event at Christmas.
P.S. If Takeaway is back, I guess Pokerface isn't!

Competition opens as stated in the Ant & Dec’s Saturday Night Takeaway programme on ITV1 (the ‘programme’), and closes at 5:00 p.m. on Friday, 19 October 2007. Eligible entrants will be entered into a draw to participate in the Grab the Ads game, (the ‘game’) during the first programme of the next series due to be broadcast in February 2008, the exact date to be specified by the Promoter.
That Andy Collins is a busy man, and as a warm up man, always managing to get himself shown on screen

I could be wrong but I thought this show hasn't been recomissioned for 2008? Nice to see Andy Collins, haven't seen him since the daytime Family Fortunes editions and don't forget I'm a Celebrity starting soon so there will be another Ant and Dec fix for those who need it before another takeaway. I'm surprised that there hasn't been any leaks about whos going to appear on I'm a celebrity yet?
