Just as an aside, does Culverhouse Cross still function these days?

Culverhouse Cross is now only rented by ITV Wales. The complex is home to various Welsh production companies. It's more thriving than you'd expect.

It's a bit sad that Granada (insert whatever local ex-regional company actually producing the programme, here) cannot find studio space for itself without having to resort to the BBC TV Centre.

YTV have three huge studios (O.K., I know one is for Emmerdale and I'm not including the mill at Farsley, with it's six floors), Granada has three (again not including the warehouse), LWT (London Studios) has a seeming glut of facilities. Surely the mothballing of Norwich and the demolition of Southampton is now looking a little silly.

Just as an aside, does Culverhouse Cross still function these days?

You're forgetting the fact that all the studios are spun off as seperate companies thesedays, so Granada having to hire a studio from BBC Resources is just the same as hiring one from The London Studios.

No, I hadn't forgot Andrew, but as we all know, all the studio functions are owned by Granada Media - the same company as the programme producers, who are in turn all owned by ITVplc. I was just being ironic in my disdain for the bean counters that have made it like this.

Back to Culverhouse Cross, I notice from my trusty 'Television and Radio - 1982/1983' books published by the IBA, that Culverhouse was in addition to the Pontcanna complex and TWO studios at Mold in North Wales (as well as Bristol). HTV, the land of no programmes, but plenty of studios. ( I make that about eight - they can't all still be working).

HTV Wales currently have studios/offices in Cardiff (Culverhouse Cross and Cardiff Bay), Carmarthen, Wrexham, Newtown and Colwyn Bay. The Mold studios closed down some time ago.

Blankety Blank was
also similarly renowned for being a BBC show throughout it's lifetime. But, look what happened when Lily Savage
was presenting the newly revived Blankety Blank for the BBC. Not very long after that, Paul O'Grady jumped
ship to ITV, and Blankety Blank went along for the ride, and became an ITV show.

When did Blankety Blank get broadcast on ITV??????? (puzzled)

I think it was broadcast between 2001 and 2002.

It was great seeing a Thames ident tonight. I always liked Take Your Pick, one of my fave ITV quiz shows. Great to see Patsy go through to the semi finals.

I didn't see that bit, which Thames ident was used?

The BBC rather foolishly signed over the rights to Paul O' Grady, o when he went to ITV he took the format with him. I think it went out on Saturday evenings. The thing is now that Paul is comfortable with his own persona (and let's face it the only difference between Lily Savage and Paul is the dress) I think they could bring back the show with paul as host.
