Altogether, though, a good effort over the seven shows, though I don't really think it can be repeated - it had 'one-off' written all over it.

mm I don't think that as carol was the 2005 winner a chance for a 2006 winner?

I think the scoreboard as well as the graphics annoyed me. Always looked like a British Rail knock-off. While it's great for nostalga in this edition, the show was running for ages (up until very recently) when they could (and I think, should) have made the effort to update the graphics and studio.

They DID update the graphics and set very radically in 1988 for the "re-launch" series with Les Dennis (after a 3 year break after Max Bygrave's tenure). Out went the yellow/black LED dot-matrix display to be replaced with a multicoloured videowall screen supplied by graphics from a Commodore Amiga. The 'X's were in red 'brush script' style rather than the blocky yellow ones, and different colours of text and a different font were used for the answer grids.

The sides of the set were also flanked by brightly-coloured angular lettering spelling out the name of the show.

This was all ditched from 1989 onwards, with a return to a more traditional look. I can only assume the LED screen used in 1988 was causing eye-strain or glare for Les Dennis and the crew, and that that was why they reverted.

Oh. That's interesting as I always thought it was just a lack of effort on the part of the production crew (given the fact technology to update the show was obviously available).

I didn't remember as I was 5 years old in 1988 - but thanks for the info Mark!

It needs doing again. They can't just do one series missing out a lot of gameshows. And even for ones that weren't studio based they can just CSO a dungeon or a supermarket!

Challenge TV were showing those episodes only 2 or 3 years ago, they also used to show the Max Bygraves episodes (i've only seen them show 1 or 2 Bob Monkhouse eps though). I haven't seen them show any pre mid-90s episodes for a while now though.

BUT in Double Money, they didn't actually double the money! The Kays only won £60 when it should have been £120. Poor show! And whilst we're on the topic, when [beep] was given as an answer, that should have been taken as the answer. Oh well...!

Now you see, I thought that as well. But if you add all the numbers from the second round of Double Money, they came to way over 100. I wonder if it was just a question which received lots and lots of varied responses, perhaps.

It worked rather well this evening, didn't it? It's the only one of the half hour shows that didn't feel needlessly stretched to fill the time even thought it actually was.

I thought it could just be them having lots of answers, however in one Double Money board, there were only four on the board, which means all 100 people gave one of four answers. And since the top two answers which were found totalled about eighty, it would be impossible for 3 and 4 to total anything more than this (because they're listed in order of value). So they definitely fluffed up somewhere along the line. Besides which, before the break, the Vordermans had about 240. Their final score was 321 with only one (I think!) answer left unrevealed on the board. Adding this approximate eighty means there's no chance the money was doubled. Tut tut.

Strange they used mid-90's Family Fortunes titles/logo, a 2001-2003 set and a 1983 Central ident. A bit of a mix there I reckon.

But great show. I thought these shows were live but obviously not - not with the "I'll give you the BEEPing money myself" during the show.

Andy Collins was only shown twice I think during the nostalgia section at the beginning of the show whereas Les Dennis was shown loads . And quite right too - Andy Collins was ****! Probably why it was axed in the first place.

Will Vernon Kay be presenting a revamped Family Fortunes next year then, as one earlier poster said? Les Dennis might as well do it, he is well-liked and this gameshow certainly does not look dated. It would be better if they did not put it up against Casualty on Saturday nights. Why not show it at 7.00pm on a Sunday?

They should DEFINITELY bring some of these gameshow back permanently - ITV is a much poorer place since their disappearance (thanks to Emmerdale - nice one... Rolling Eyes ).

Eh errrr, sorry it never actually worked like this. They were the most popular four answers given - the amount of answers needed always started reducing in Double Money.

Cast your mind back to the first few rounds - the answers on the board only totalled about 85. In most questions, answers which onyl a single person gives just don't go up on the board - but they still count for the purpose of interviewing 100 people.

Les Dennis has apparantly said he won't go back and do it again.

If it does come back, I'd expect it to be shown at 6pm on a Saturday, just after YBF!. Remember any proper remakes will be a lot different to the Gameshow Marathon format, in that they won't be huge studio jobs with hundreds of people in the audience screaming all the time!

Well, if I'm not mistaken, what actually happens is they ask 100 people, and then the top six answers given by those hundred are put on the board. So say, for example, if 23 different answers are given, only the top six are shown. However, if only three different answers are given, then those three are shown. You'll notice that when there are fewer than six answers, when all are revealed, they will total 100. However, when the presenter says 'top six answers for this one' before asking the question on the podium, this means that not all answers given are represented.

I agree some of these game shows are great and should be brought back, I really enjoyed Family Fortunes last night. They could show them Friday and Sunday at 7.00pm as Mon-Thurs for Emmerdale is more than enough
