So Ant & Dec's first(?) US presenting vehicle 'premieres' tomorrow. You Bet!, sorry, Wanna Bet? begins on ABC. There's a couple of interesting behind the scenes clips at http://abc.go.com/primetime/wannabet/index?pn=index. The guys seem pretty grounded, reference the fact the show was on in the UK a decade ago and seem to play on their English roots rather than ignore where they've come from.

Wonder if it'll be a ratings success and may see ITV resurrecting the format again?

No, it's legally the same format as You Bet, it's still massive in Germany.

Unless he is German, no.

EDIT: Oh, wells.

Wouldn't surprise me at all if it returns here, possibly ideal for a Sunday night slot. I also get the impression that Ant and Dec want to move on from Saturday Night Takeaway sooner rather than later.

Is Poker Face ever returning?

I wonder how well the yanks will cope with their accent,

Interesting that the sponsored link I get on an ABC page featuring to english presenters is for 'Teeth Whitening' Rolling Eyes

Nope - as wells has pointed out - You Bet! and Wanna Bet? are both versions of Wetten das..? a long running German game-show format, that has been running on German-language TV (Germany, Austria and Switzerland) since 1981.

More info here : http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Wetten,_dass..%3F

Looks to be a major event format - more so than You Bet! was. (Also interesting that it is commissioned by state broadcasters - presumably because of its age and cost - rather than purely commercial channels like RTL)

Yeah I know, but I bet Cowell's involved somewhere.

No reason to suggest that, it seems to me like it's being produced by the guy who took the Weakest Link and Dog Eat Dog to the US.

I hope to Christ this won't turn into a Deeley-esque move to America thing for Ant and Dec.

Is there any news on how this went down in the states?

Not well, 3.1m viewers at 8pm on ABC. That's low for a US show.

More here ...

Only very few manage to crack America, Cat Deeley managed it somehow.

Incidentally, Ant & Dec are back for another Soccer Aid in September, and presumably I'm A Celeb later in the year. Don't think there is any more Takeaway this year is there ?
