the whole of Analogue and terrestrial television has been off for two days now, in patrs of North Yorkshire. It was off a few days ago and came back on. On Look North they said that the transmitter on Emly Moor had been struck by lightening.

Any News?

Our local relay now has BBC1, 2 and Channel 4, but no sign of Tyne Tees. There's also a strange interference between the channels.

To be fair to them, they've been the victims of circumstance (this being floods and power cuts). Don't forget that TTTV does reach into part of Southern Scotland, and it could have been worse - it could have been Granada, with which Border has spoon-fed its output into Scotland over the years.

I daresay questions will be asked as a result of this. You can bet your boots, though, that if it had been ITV London that had gone off-air, the problems would have been fixed one hell of a lot quicker.

Presumably Border could not just have switched to Scottish TV for Scottish viewers anyway, as it is owned by SMG rather than ITV PLC.

Can't see there being any great inquiry about this, because it didn't happen in London. I've just made a mental note to tune to the BBC should there ever be a national emergency (although knowing BBC Scotland, they'd probably tell us how Shetland had been affected rather than concentrating on areas where people actually live).

ITV has no part to play in government emergency disaster planning. Watch and listen to the BBC or you'll die!
