Many years ago I started to compile a complete list of ITV announcers. It appeared on the now out-of-date 405 Alive website. That's great Tony. Will take some time to properly look over the list.

But STV's John Toye was an ATV announcer?

Fred Dinenage was never a continuity announcer on TVS, or Meridian, not sure about Southern during the 60s though ?

Add to that list Graham Rogers (also Meridian), Laura Penn, and David Vickery.

Also Add to C4 :

David Vickery, Syd Burke, Keith Harrison (also LWT) Olga Hubitsca (sp?)

Add to Southern and Thames: Gill Hewett

My information came from Roger Bunney, whose information is 100% reliable in these matters - he did say that Fred only appeared briefly to fill gaps when others were off sick.

Oh, yes. That's where he started. I have a tape somewhere of John doing the ITA announcement for ATV.

He was in fact the son of light music composer and conductor Geoffrey Toye, who composed "The Haunted Ballroom".

Umm, fair enough then. However, don't forget to add the ubiquitous Keith Martin to TVS's list !

Tyne Tees additions:

Simon Whitlock (YTV-sourced but a relief announcer at Newcastle), Karen Petch (likewise), Andy Siddell (likewise! Andy was always out of vision), Jonathan Morrell, Clem Shaw (the BBC announcer, worked at Tyne Tees out-of-vision in 1991-2), Lesley Manners.

Border addition:

Lesley Cairney (Lesley Manners before she married...).

Yorkshire additions:

Simon Whitlock, Karen Petch, Andy Siddell, Maggie Mash, Bob Preedy (plus a bunch of others after the various mergers which are probably better placed in a generic "GMG North" section -- these would include Kerrie Gosney, Tracey Crawford, Roger Tilling, Nick Oliver and of course Bob Preedy, Maggie Mash and John Crosse).

I remember seeing Gary Terzza on Central in the 80s and he also presented Children's ITV in the summer holidays in around 1987 with Debbie Shore - I am not sure if she was also a central announcer. I am only just about old enough to remember the Central in-vision announcers and the only other one I can recall is Mike Prince - he is so well-remembered by Central viewers. From the clips I have seen in more recent years, he was fantastic at his job and surely one of the best, if not the best, announcers at Central
