Who on earth are these appalling announcers that are hired by ITV 1??
The woman on tonight linking into Corrie sounded just as if she was 'reading' from a script. No feeling, no passion, no diction. Just dreadful! It really IS Thames estuary TV.

For Gods sake get the likes of Trish Bertram, Glen Thompsett, Graham Bannerman, Mark Lipscombe back on, at least they had gravitas and could speak proper!!

I thought that too - I've heard her before - she doesn't seem to be on that much though ( thankfully)
I'm sure that someone has said this before, on here, aswell.

I too wonder why there has been a decline when it comes to continuity announcers on ITV1. I can't stand any of the current crop of CAs - the worst has to be the Geordie bloke - and it's a shame that there are, on the face of it, no modern Glen Thompsetts or Trish Bertrams.

Bring back Dame Maggie and I'll be happy. Very Happy

Trish Bertrams is the best one - her voice is so unique!

I'm not too bothered about the actual voice overs, although someone with character is an added bonus, what drives me bonkers is when the announcers say 'Corrie', I don't know why, but I hate it when they refer it to that.

Yeah, it similarly miffed me last night when the announcer on More4 told me that "Curb" was on next. I don't mind a little bit of informality (though the BBC1 bloke - Dean? - with his occasional "jokes" just make me cringe) but that just sounds a bit too casual.

That would Duncan, I'm afraid I disagree there. Wink

I'm sure I've read some posts on here from Duncan - or am I imagining things?

Always amazes me how we had so many great announcers across the ITV network over the years, and yet so few of them have done anything since.

Every single region boasted some damn good talent that would, even now, not be too old for the job, so what happened to them all?

ITV's continuity would still be something worth catching if the like of Steel, Weston, Prince, Bertram, Siddle and Tilling could be persuaded back into the booth.

Frankly I'd rather they brought Clive Champney out of retirement than some of the guff they have on at the moment!

I think the problem is that for some some reason, traditional sounding authoritative announcers aren't what TV companies are after anymore.

There's probably some w@nky marketing theory somewhere that people 'relate' more to announcers who sound like someone dragged in off the street.

As a result we end up with wishy-washy, non attention-grabbing, bored sounding presentation with no pace. Surely this isn't what TV companies need in a multi-channel era when they're telling us that they need to fight for every viewer at programme junctions. Still, at least they've got the wretched ECP to do the work instead.

Oh, and on the subject of great announcers I'd love to see back, it's got to be Ted May, THE voice of Central. Cool

Why not put Gilly, Pamela and Rose from UTV on the network? All three are well-experienced at their job, have a friendly and accessible presenting style but at the same time still have an air of authority.

As for unleashing Julian on the network... maybe on special occasions only Wink
