To anyone watching at this hour...Who is it? Just turned over to ONE and I have to say he doesn't sound familiar at all.

EDIT: Well, he said it himself - Duncan Newmarch. Been around since '04 apparently but don't think heard much of him until now!

I don't know, but there is a dreadful new female announcer on BBC1 on Saturday night and the Saturday 2 weeks previous.

She wasn't new - it was Becky Wright, who is mostly heard on BBC2. She's been around a long time (by today's standards!) and famously did BBC2's afternoon cont on 11/9/2001.

More noteworthy was the fact that Becky was doing both BBC1 AND BBC2 on Saturday night. This hasn't happened since the days of morning Open University - how did she do it?

Not quite true. I believe it has been happening with increasing regularity in recent times.

Quite the opposite of dreadful, Becky is probably top announcer in my books, alongside Dean. Although I seldom catch her on BBC ONE (Saturday being an exception), so if you don't watch much of TWO, it could be easier to mistake her for someone new.

True - it was probably the first time I'd really noticed.

But would Becky have voiced two channels from one studio, or been recorded on one? (hope it's not the latter!)

If the junctions were not happening at the same time, then it is perfectly feasible for Becky to have walked from one con booth to the other. However it is more than likely that she pre-recorded a lot of the annos' anyway. The director would have played them off the audio server.

A lot more annos' are pre-recorded than you might think. In fact you'll often find that within one junction, some v/o's will be voiced live by the announcer and others will be pre-recorded. E.g. - Live v/o end credits, pre-recorded v/o on a
2Night moving pointer (by the same announcer), followed by a live symbol intro.

I've heard Duncan before, remembering him clearly in November 2004 on Friday nights for some reason, though he did disappear from what I can see until recently.

Agree with Paul's comments on Dean and Becky - easily the best announcers with interesting announcements and quite often long playouts (though I am aware that is a director's decision).

On the topic of announcers, where's Stephanie Sabine gone?

I thought I heard her on BBC1 on Saturday evening until Doctor Who.

I know, a rather annoying voice, but not as annoying as ITV's..

I've always found Dean to sound a tad smug
