b****r that for a laugh. Half hour normal quiz Show from 5pm and then move The One Show back to 5:30; freeing up 7pm for proper telly.

Why would they ever move the channel's flagship show back to a timeslot when no-one will watch it?

Flagship? Hardly. It's a convenient, cheap half hour pale imitation of Nationwide with shades of Wogan and Countryfile. BBC1's flagships should be programmes like Panorama, Eastenders and Doctor Who.

How many new episodes a year have they been airing anyway - it's a show where they can basically air repeats and people don't particularly notice.

You can usually tell by Anne Robinson's latest facelift or glasses.

TWL had it's day as soon as Anne returned from the US and the overloaded celeb/themed editions kicked off. If anything, it's 'daytime' appeal has long been and gone.

The One Show is unlikely to move from 7pm. It outrates pretty much everything it replaced in the 7pm slot - by a pretty huge amount. Whilst it still does good business for BBC One at 7pm I don't see it moving. (I doubt the 5.30pm slot would sustain the budget The One Show needs)

It rates much better than almost everything it replaces - and I suspect it isn't as cheap as you might think. Live studio shows with decently produced long films in them are not cheap to make - as you have to pay for both decent studio AND decent location production. The One Show films often have much higher production values than News and Current Affairs inserts - and those don't come cheap (particularly in HD).

Mentioned briefly earlier in the thread, but Pointless seems to be a ready-made replacement if the beeb want to keep up the quiz-route. Might not have the legs that Weakest Link does though, so perhaps Doctors makes more sense.

I'd like to know why The One Show isn't proper telly. What else isn't proper telly, the local news? Countryfile? Deal or No Deal? The Apprentice?

Is it just Sport and high brow drama you class as proper telly?

I think The One Show is a great little format, it must appeal quite a wide demographic in terms of age.

I don’t watch the Weakest Link, but it would be interesting to try what the Americans did once the show left primetime and use a male comedian. Maybe Sky could pick up the format for a run on Challenge or even Sky 1.

I would say Eastenders was the channels Flagship show?

And not the programme named after the channel?

Perhaps a 5.30pm Doctors repeat and a 15-minute extension to CBBC, restoring a traditional post-5pm slot for Blue Peter?

It does seem unlikely that they'll keep the CBBC slot there post switchover. It's one of the more high profile suggestions from the current cost saving reductions at the BBC

no, if Eastenders was dropped there would be more people kicking off then if the one show was dropped.

I expect they will just thin out the remaining new episodes with repeats, meaning the show will remain on BBC1 for at least a year after it is formerly axed.
