Can someone explain to me why every time I watch a footy match on telly there's always some **** behind the goal holding up a sign saying John:19.
It's been bugging me for **** years.

Well it's a bible reference, innit? John:19 is all about the crucifixion. It's all part of a secret plot to discredit christianity by making its adherents look like a bunch of nutters who hold up signs at football matches.

OT:

I hadn't heard of this report at all, but I was thinking about this earlier today. I recall a time when my mate was trying to get through to some football nutter that 'You'll Never Walk Alone' was originally a song from the musical 'Carousel'. The guy just kept saying, 'yeah, but before that, it was a football anthem'. He just wasn't able to comprehend that the song could've been written for a completely different purpose, and then borrowed by Liverpool fans much later on.

I love the Western Mail. So many of their stories are based on 'research' and press releases that reading it makes for a really refreshing break from the grim reality of actual life.

And I'm not being sarcastic!

I can't stand the game, but PLEASE call it football! We have proper, original football - not something re-christened 'soccer' due to a game that has more to do with carrying and throwing a ball!

It was actually a quote from the late American humorist Erma Bombeck, rather than a scientist, and presumably referred to American Football.
