Central News have updated god knows how many times since 1993. Though its always nice to have a change i suppose.

Central's best looks were the electric guitar music in 1998 and the 2001 previous to this. Both had excellent graphics and theme music.

As said, London Today/Tonight's studio is unique, so why should they change it. The tune fits the style of the show and so minor tweaks are just made to keep it fresh. If things are not broke, why fix them?

I don't know why, but I simply cannot take Anglia News seriously. This new look is as bad as the old one - in fact the only thing I actually like about Anglia News is that rather dashing presenter on the caps on the previous page Wink

As far as I'm concerned, they need to change a lot more radically than they have done.

Dashing? Am I missing something?

London could do with a refresh. We have had the same set, music and titles since 1993.

No we haven't...do you actually watch?

Yes I do watch. They have had the same studio set looking out over london since LNN took over in 1993. The music is the same da-da-daaaa-da-daa-daa-da-da that they have had since day one.

The studio is the same, the backdrop the same however the desk has changed, the sofa has changed, and the titles and music HAS CHANGED ask anyone on this forum whether THEY remember the original London Tonight music and flying word titles, these do NOT run anymore.

UTV also changed their logo in 2000. And after Tyne Tees too, if I'm not mistaken.

I was referring to 'ITV1' regions. Of course there is a point in UTV continuing to develop their brand. What I was saying is that there is no point in ITV1 branded regions trying to develop their regional brand further because they've got no way of asserting it.

Quote:
They can dump the ITV branding if they're no longer owned by Carlton/Granada - don't forget the Viacom/Haim Saban/Hallmark bidding war that'll likely soon happen, if other threads are accurate.

So Haim Saban buys out the merged Carlton and Granada and then gives all the regions back their local autonomy, allowing them to spend millions on personnel and facilities to do this? Get real. It doesn't matter who owns Anglia - they are now just a production facilitiy. The whole infrastructure of the station side which enabled it to be a seperate autonomous station has gone, and the remaining staff have little or no power. It will cost millions to reverse this, and won't happen without legislation to force it.

Quote:
What was that about the logos disappearing? Are production slides to be dropped? Or are you just thinking of post-merger, if it still happens...

Granada is, supposedly, planning to merge all it's production brands together - it won't say 'An Anglia Television Production' at the end any more, it will be 'A Granada Production' wherever you go. And in any case, not all regional news has production slides - Westcountry hasn't ever since Oct 28th.

Yep - I distinctly remember really liking the launch "London Tonight/Today" look. The titles worked really well with the music, and the studio was (and remains) an amazingly strong asset.

Wasn't the original London Tonight show an hour long? ISTR that it was only half an hour on LWT Friday evenings - and the hour long format was often that bit duller.?

I also recall a dreadful relaunch - with a curvy transmitter with curvy TV screen (and a truly dreadful headline key transition that pretended to be clever than it was?) and a nasty music re-mix. It didn't last long - and the current look is an improvement over this...

Yes I know of the director that did this, lets just say he doesn't work there anymore.

How awful.

Well I think it is a huge improvement on the last look.

Would be great to have a real set, but it's been like it for so long I've got used to it.

The Closer to home strand is back again at last, much better.

The graphics look 100% better too, including titles, DOG, astons etc.

I notice Tim and Caroline mentioned close to the end, that viewers wanting the East service had to tune off of digital satellite, back to channel 3 through the aerial. Never seen that mentioned before. Even had a picture of Kevin and the other girl who does it over there.

I think it was a needed improvement, it really was looking drab, and at last we don't have to endure those awful titles. The 6pm programme is now being called Anglia News Tonight, rather than 'at six'.

I noticed there was an ITV1 Anglia Ident/still at the beginning of the programme too, I assume it is recorded on the front of the titles. Confused:

The CSO set is horrible. I like the variation on the Anglia logo though.

I haven't seen Anglia News yet because... well it's crap. What's the point in updating a crap studio and crap titles with something that is equally as crap?

I would have thought at least they would've had the arrows point south-east, not north-east. If I was designing it all... well I'll tell you one thing, I would have at least gone to the effort to make it something different.

Same old. Boring. Anyway, thats my oppinion. Feel free to tell me off now.

I agree with Aaron - the new look to Anglia News is an improvement on the previous look... Even the logo on the wall in the newsroom has been changed this time, whereas at the last revamp, it was left untouched.

Oops!

I thought it was the same since the start. Let this be a lesson to you. Cannabis does affect your memory!

Maybe next time I shouldn't express my opion as fact, eh?

The arrow on the new logo is designed to be pointing east-ish, ie towards East Anglia.

Can't please everyone can you? Smile
