No, Charlie, just got that dodgy typewriter from ITN! (as used in the "Nows at Ton" sketch)

I do not think complaining about the ident used is pathetic.

They carefully choose the ident for the news and programs according to their style and 'genre'. So they should beable to do the same with tribute programs.

Applying your logic, I would have thought that a programme all about Ronnie should have an upbeat feel to it. That was his nature.

The programme didn't mourn his loss so much as it celebrated his life.

A great British hero has died.

It is a sombre time to reflect.

Not to stand on the tables and do a jig.

And I suppose we should have worn black armbands and flew the flags at half-mast as well?

are you saying you didn't? this is the greatest tragedy since 7/7 - where I personally lit a candle for everyone that died. my house burned down but it only brought me closer to the suffering.

The original poster raises an interesting point though - that is, that the current idents are totally unsuitable when there is a major tragedy, or important death. The globe could be used to introduce a comedy programme and a news bulletin announcing the death of the Pope and everything in between. That is why it lasted for so long in its various forms. These replacements, whilst "showing the diversity of modern 21st century Britain in the multi-channel digital age" or whatever the justification for their introduction was, are totally unsuitable.

I think you were find they were doing the salsa on the dancefloor, not a jig on a table.

That's what the Ballet ident is for. (cue the Bouncy Pudding argument [/yawn])

In reply to other posters, perhaps the tribute programme shouldn't have include anything that might raise a laugh. Would that have made you happy?

Well, quite. My point though was that by having one symbol which could be used for anything (I've selected the relevent sentance from my original post) there was never any danger of chosing the "wrong" ident - the globe did everything. So "Ballet" is to be used for sombre occasions? Which? When? Before bulletins? How about in between normal programming on a day like 9/11 or 7/7? And if so, which normal programmes? All of them? And who makes that decision?
You could always avoid all those questions by just having a symbol like the globe.

Then what on earth would we talk about here?

Besides, you know what kids are like these days. Within hours they would be calling it "boring" and "tired" etc etc... ad nauseam.
