i think thats a hell of a lot worse! the ITV logo aint very good and just displaying it as a static caption would look so bland and boring! just imagine the BBC doing a statc logo!
JS
even though i dont like the programme slides and favour captions i agree. idents are too bland and dont explain anything.
TV
Westward's breakdown slides were wonderfully simple - centrally-mounted text with "We apologise for the loss of programme/picture/sound/colour" etc. TSW used the same slides initially, before realising they looked very 60s and ditched them for digitised captions.
JS
programme slides are fine introducing programmes, however i think they're unsutible as cock up captions as another meber put them

I miss the programme menu's we used to have on HTV Wales at the start of the evening schedule many years ago!
Ah yes there used to be one before Emmerdale every night at 18:59 - sometimes with some music in the background!
They used to pop up all over the place throughout the 90's and early to fill time (I think)

does anybody know what the old regional captions look liked? i'd like to get a bit of nostalgia flowing through my vains again!

If you mean the hearts era it would be a plain hearts background still with the "ITV" logo on it, or a still of the regional breakbumper.
In the hearts era many of the stations had a slide with the ITV 1 logo on heart background with apology (Carlton regions included). For some reason Anglia, and possibly others, just used a 4:3 still of the first frame of the ident streched to 16:9.

They used to sometimes show one at 9.25am with the line up of daytime programmes too.
