it's a good idea but i would still prefer not to see the listings. people already have acces to these by the channel, ceefax/teletext, mags, etc...
Understood, but I think one of the fundamental reasons they are using a programme menu is that 'it's more interesting'. If it simply says there is a technical problem, especially for prolonged faults, the viewer will get fed up and switchover, which the channel doesn't want.

However the main problem with a programme menu is that it needs to be updated regularly, either after each programme or several times a day - to show 'tonight', 'tomorrow' and be updated for schedule changes.
There was a system at the beeb (they might still have it) that would generate menu slides automatically but it wasn't perfect and still needed someone to get it to update. For something that is only shown once in a blue moon it's not really worth it

I think ITV's is generated automatically using the listings on the playout system. Considering ITV do programme menu's on just about every break, I would be very surprised if it isn't automated. That, and the transition from static logo to programme menu is too quick for it to be made manually. I guess the only reason the logo is put up first so they can tell the system to freeze the animation and show more programmes on the list.
Bring back the testcard. You never see them anymore.
That has to be the must stupid descion a broadcaster makes. Viewers would probably think it's closedown or "not working" they didn't do that in the old days why now?
