See that's the thing, we live in a Strong area, you can pick up decent pictures from an indoor aerial for the main channels, with an outdoor aerial there hasn't been any problems either, we can always pick up the signals quite clear, we've even had Channel 5 without a problem sometime before it launched. And up until a few years ago we managed to get good receptions of channels broadcasting from Moel-Y-Parc.

People obviously live in stronger signal areas. Obviously though, when the analogue switch off happens, signals will be boosted so that problem shouldn't exist.

The trouble is, if you're watching via an indoor aerial, you either get all or nothing with digital TV. On analogue, if you can't get a good signal, you might be able to get a picture which is poor but just about watchable. If you've got a poor digital signal, you're totally knackered. Very often as well, increasing the power of the transmitters will do little to help. If you're in a 'shadow' of a building or hill, the signal is still unlikely to reach you adequately.

I tried Freeview with an indoor aerial late last year (becase the one on the roof has had it and gets nothing) and I was able to get all the muxes except the one with abc1. The ITV/C4 mux broke up a lot too.
Not bad considering I'm on the eastern edge of Cambridgeshire.
