Wow, who saw that coming? 3 series deal too.

I doubt that many people use Amazon Prime compared to say Netflix. I'm quite surprised by this.

Disappointed it's with Amazon as Instant Video is not as in many markets that Netflix is in, however it should mean viewers in Amazon markets can buy each episode or pay £6.99 per month (or the £79 annual fee) to watch. I'm sure it'll also be released on DVD too.

Well everyone got that wrong.

I think there'll be a lot of disappointment with that given the very limited number of countries where Amazon Prime Instant Video is available. There'll be particular consternation in Ireland as it effectively means we are at the mercy of RTE, TV3, or less likely, TG4 (and even less likely UTV) to pick up the series. We could be waiting a while (though RTE do show Top Gear).

The countries without instant video are more likely to get a broadcast deal though and they could have expansion plans.

Yes - will be interesting to see if they launch Amazon Video in territories that they don't have their e-Commerce site available.

In Europe Amazon really only covers the UK, France, Germany, Italy and Spain, with no representation in the smaller EU countries like the Nordics, Benelux etc.

An interesting choice. I can imagine this being the TV equivalent of what Howard Stern did when he moved to Satellite Radio in the mid 2000s. Moving to a service that doesn't have many subscribers hoping that your popularity will push the subscriber numbers up substantially. Worked for Stern. And I think they will be just popular enough to do it.

Amazon.co.uk will ship (most) physical goods to Ireland (though they balk at some electronics) and I believe Amazon.de will do the same for Austria. But only the U.S., UK, Germany, Austria, and Japan get Prime Instant Video.

Or it could be the equivalent of Richard & Judy going to UKTV Watch....

Well, I'm not ditching Netflix and subscribing to Amazon's video service just for this. I'll wait until it becomes available on either a normal broadcast channel, or via certain "unofficial" sources . . .

It is possible to have a subscription to both services, you know.
