my hero was a successful comedy until they ####ed it up by sticking James Dryfuss as a replacement for Ardel O'Hanlon. Now it's been axed.

I think My Hero outstayed its welcome long before James Dryfuss took over.

There seems to be a lot of moaning on this forum in regards to old formats returning such as ITV's attempt at bringing back old quiz shows, Dame Edna's new programme and now family based sitcoms. People forget that TV is for all age groups and thankfully many of us remember the days when everyone was catered for. For some strange reason around the start of this decade both the BBC and ITV ditched many of its older programmes and the qualified entertainers that appear on them for wall-to-wall cheap crud and crappy reality TV aimed at younger viewers and produced by newly qualified Media dimwits with next to no TV experience. I am glad it's now gone full circle and traditional formats are returning.

I'm a big fan of the sitcom. I love many of the great British sitcoms: Dad's Army, Keeping Up Appearances, Porridge, Open All Hours, Yes Minister, etc. However, I think dragging up the same shows from the past is a big mistake. They were great at the time, but they are never as good a second time around. That said, I'm all in favour of the BBC trying to make sitcoms again, as there has been a complete lack of successful ones over the decade so far. I think they should try to come up with something new and create another successful show, instead of relying on the past. I've had enough of this reality TV crap. That genre has over-stayed its welcome. Of all the reality programmes made since 2000, I've only watched the first two series of ITV's I'm A Celebrity: Get Me Out Of Here and Strictly Come Dancing. I've given the rest of them a wide berth. It's about time the broadcasters came up with some good situation comedy.

Well it now looks like the all new 'Allo 'Allo episode is more of a look back at the old series. Rene is sat in his cafe, after the war, writing his memoirs and we get to see flashbacks of the series. Nine members of the old cast appear in the episode, including Rene, Michelle, Yvette & Officer Crabtree.

The programme will air later this Spring on BBC1.

Hmm, well seeing as As Time Goes By did the same thing rather successfully, and as it's not specifically for the Christmas ratings, looking at the clip now I don't see why it can't be done.

Rubbish. Makes me laugh!

Great theme too - could almost have been lifted from a Guy Luypaerts test card tape. Has it ever been released commercially?

Oh, and did I mention Kim Hartman was in it? Laughing

Seems like an odd time to put it on. Mind you, didn't it originally air on a Saturday or Sunday evening after Bobs Full House?

It should give BBC2 high ratings tonight I think. I can't help thinking there will be continuity along the lines of "Now listen carefully, I shall say this only once... ...and now on BBC2 it's a new episode of Allo Allo". Would be amusing if they got the cast to do the continuity in character, such as 'Officer Crabtree'.
