He does actually raise some very good points. Channel 4 currently isn't what it should be - as a station which is publicly owned and supposed to be the main PSB commercial channel. It does a lot of good (and popular) stuff, but compared to what, perhaps, it should be doing... it does fall short in some areas.
Allen calling 4 banal isn't as 'pot kettle' as you might think: ITV in this day and age is supposed to be mainstream and populist (i.e. banal)... channel 4 shouldn't be, but is in a few areas
