Alex Trebek has died

Just announced on Twitter:

This is terrible news. He had been battling with cancer for a long time and so strongly. He will be missed dearly.

Couldn’t agree more, very sad news.

I would like you to address your language though. Patients prefer not to talk about a cancer diagnosis as battle or fight. These ideas ultimately suggest that those who die with cancer have lost. Nobody has equal odds against cancer and it’s not a fair fight it’s a brutal disease. Furthermore, an individuals ‘strength’ is never the reason they survived while others did not. Try to remember that. Trebek was, I’m sure, brave in the face of an aggressive disease and will be sadly missed by many.

Sad news. Probably is the equivalent to Brucie here - a fixture in US living rooms for decades.

Brucie stepped down from the limelight a few years before his death, I think Alex was a bit of a trooper and still going right until the end!

I think Regis Philbin, who passed away earlier this year, may have been a bit closer to being a US equivalent of our Brucie.

Very sad news to hear. I guess Alex' work has never been a big thing here in the UK, and it's a shame Jeopardy never took off over here despite a few attempts. The Jeopardy thinking music is a classic to me. RIP Alex.

They've filmed enough episodes to take them through to Christmas Day. Although they film 5 episodes a day they only have 2 recording days a fortnight and record a couple of months ahead of broadcast.

Apparently Alex was recording episodes up to 2 weeks ago.

I am actually being kind, I was inoffensive, not aggressive but I made a clear and justified comment. One that a lot of people within my community would agree with. This is an issue across society that continues to be evident in a lot of reporting. Without challenging these beliefs cancer patients will continue to face this nonsense talk.
I think if what you took from my post was that I should be kinder, it was generally lost on you.

Indeed. Based on the clip posted above, Mr Trebek actually said on camera to his gameshow's viewers, "I'm going to fight this."

I realise others may not use such terms, but maybe we should respect his choice of language in relation to his own illness.
