After the last break on The Alan Titchmarsh Show, we were treated to a static ITV 1 slide and a voice over telling us that they were "having some problems bringing you The Alan Titchmarsh Show, in the meantime here is some music... (a few seconds of silence followed) Well, we are having problems with the music as well at the moment. So, in the meantime a quick look at whats coming up later here on ITV1". He then went on to list the next three programmes (VO only, no menu) before telling us we could rejoin the show, which we did half way through a competition trail.

Alan Titchmarsh didn't mention the problem. Is the show live on a Tuesday?

The subtitles included the breakdown and ITV1 announcement.

UTV also broadcast the breakdown, including ITV1 graphic and announcement.
Why didn't they get a clean feed?
UTV are also showing the same programmes that the announcer mentioned as being on ITV 1, so that was lucky.

The ITV 1 CA apologised again over the credits, UTV didn't mention the breakdown again. This appology was not subtitled.

STV don't show The Alan Titchmarsh Show. Unless they show it at another time?

What are the arrangements for UTV out of peak these days? I thought they had no continuity during daytime and full ITV1 presentation (without the announcements overnights).

So they may not have been best placed to deal with it, or they may just allow ITV1 to deal with these problems if they come up.

Out of curiosity, and slightly OT, what exactly used to happen when there was a technical breakdown? How were all the stations contacted, or was it just the broadcaster in charge of screening the show which had to take command to start with? I'm reminded of the legendary The Time The Place episode which had to be abandoned, which sounds like a badly-briefed local announcer doing the initial work, then London taking over until This Morning.

There was a system called the "Red Phone" which linked the pres/MCR depts in the regions. I'd imagine the specifics of how a breakdown has handled depended on the circumstances, whether it was a problem with the VTR or Telecine playing out the programme or whether the BT circuit carrying the programme had failed.

I remember seeing an episode of something like Cross Wits fall have sound trouble, and noticing that YTV left it and went to a slide and music much earlier than Granada, who initially stayed with it with an apology caption overlayed.

UTV AIUI don't have an announcer during daytime, so it probably made far more sense to stick with the network apology than try and do anything themselves. They take the ITV1 branding overnight and on end of part captions (as well as during GMTV) so it's not like it's completely unseen in NI.

(yes the AT Show is live on Tuesdays)

I guess no one told him that the show had been off air then. It looks like the only bit we missed was the competition promo because when the show came back Mr. Titchmarsh said the usual welcome back.

The show is on ITV Player, http://www.itv.com/ITVPlayer/Video/default.html?ViewType=5&Filter=105192
The ITV Player has the competitions cut out anyway due to the show being available for 30 days.

There is another problem with the ITV Player version though. It looks like it is incorrectly framed to me. I think the picture is zoomed in slighty.
