Ugh, can't they have got a better host?

They can't really win. Imagine the reaction here had it been Stephen Mulhern. Alan Carr is at least a new face for ITV.

But even Channel 4 are struggling to find any more uses for him.

To be fair, he’s probably a much better fit for ITV.

And don’t forget he’s job sharing with Graham Norton on a major project for the BBC soon. So I wouldn’t write him off yet.

I wouldn't really call Drag Race UK for BBC Three a major project.

No mention of the word "celebrity" in this - are they actually going to use real life contestants? Sounds like it might actually be 5 stand alone pilots (though the two Brucie formats also get a Christmas special) rather than a series with the same contestants.

Anyway, these are supposedly the titles from the Vernon Kay pilot of Play your Cards Right from six years ago.

Which is why it’s good if he reinvents himself on ITV, like how Graham Norton did when he moved from Channel 4 to BBC One.

Well they’ve clearly invested quite a lot in the show and it will almost certainly be on BBC One. I would expect it’ll be shown overseas too.

The show is very popular worldwide, so a localised version has a lot of potential.

If they were the titles then I actually liked it. Shame it didn't get a series, especially as Vernon has admitted, years ago, he tries to follow in Bruce's footsteps, as that would be more his style of gameshow.

I'd argue they were slightly different circumstances. AFAIK Graham was still doing alright at Channel 4 by the time he moved to the BBC (except for his failed Comedy Central venture in America) and the newly revamped Graham Norton Show wasn't the juggernaut it is now (even carrying over many features from his So and V show).

On the flip side, Chatty Man slowly faded away after a string of sub-par guests and features that weren't particularly funny, and various other projects Alan has done for Channel 4 was met with scathing reviews and/or poor viewing figures.

Regardless of your opinion of either comedian, it didn't seem like Graham was jumping from a sinking ship. Alan, even though he's a very capable performer under the right circumstances, still seems to be waiting for his clothes to dry.

Just like Graham was 10 years ago Alan Carr now seems to be wading through sh!t waiting hopefully for that late night Friday night chat show slot on BBC1 to become vacant.

There will be one celeb special but the rest of the series will be punters.

These were indeed the titles. It was a good pilot but came around the time the Gambling Commission started sniffing round shows and they all had to drop the word "gamble" from their vocabulary. PYCR was seen as way too gamble-y in such a sensitive time so they didn't go ahead with the series.

Alan Carr's recent PYCR (which was a pilot for Epic) was really strong and it should be a good series.

Could be worse, could be Danny Dyer...
