Quite enjoying this programme on BBC Two, reminds me a bit of a school trip but on the TV.

Very surprised there's been no picture breakups on any of the links with all the buildings, walking around and planes taking off and landing. Are they using satellite uplink from there or another method?

Mix of satellite and microwave circuits.

Yeah two satellite feeds one the reserve Airport feed the other a links feed in 4:2:2 on 24.5w

There's a third feed which says Airport Live Outgoing Main as the channel ID.

Main and Reserve from the main unit to Red Bee (via TVC). Additional link from secondary unit to main unit. (Lower quality links used for early rehearsals - including a reverse to secondary unit)

Ironically I was passing through LHR T3 on Monday morning to fly to Sweden, arrived back there 20:00hrs Tuesday,
and was back again 36 hours hours later to drop my lad off for a flight to the US.

They were showing the programme on the screens in passport area at T3 when I passed through.

Anyway, I'd PVR'd all four programmes, watched the first two so far, very good actually, I use Heathrow 20-30 times a year, and you kind of get an idea of how things function there visiting that regularly, but it was fascinating to see some of the detail.

Noticed the 'drop frame' glitches, particularly in Monday's show, looked to me there might have been timing errors
between feeds, and it was a sign of the synchronisers dumping a frame when the timing drifted out of range ?

As I'm sure I've told you a few times, the satellite platforms at TVC will be in daily use until October. (It's a bit lonely for the folk left behind!)
