I'm sure there used to be many more news summaries in the afternoon on BBC 2 (probably before the new generic look) than there is now. Now there is only one - anyone know why?

Probably because of News24.

They used to have news summaries at 3pm then 3.55pm with Westminster Live in the middle. Now, though, they moved Westminster Live to 2.40 - 3.20 and must have decided that it was better to have one five minute bulletin than two three minute updates.

I think Westminster is part of the reason. But I would also imagine the bulletin, as it is, gives the regions more time in one go to run reports (rather than the 60 secs or so they used to get).

There used to be news summaries on the hour in the morning on BBC1 (as there still are) leading up to 1pm, then after that they'd be on the hour on BBC2.
