Not an obvious choice but wiredly I think it could work. The show never really get's that heavy.

Really surprised Jason Manford would even consider a role like this, especially as he's now really breaking through in his own field - and has a tour for the next 12 months. Is he going to be pissing off his fans by cancelling dates just so he can host The One Show?

I do rate him though - but not right for The One Show at all.

How on earth do you know?

Brekkie does make a good point in that he's a stand up comedian, and doing early evening TV 4 days a week does limit that side of his career somewhat. I'm sure this (along with other commitments) would have scuppered any chance of having Paul Merton as permanant presenter.

However the 4 day week does mean that he can do Friday and weekends in the clubs, but what is he going to do about his tour: http://www.chortle.co.uk/shows/tour/j/17780/jason_manford:_im_turning_into_my_dad He can't make Stoke on Trent for 7:30 on a wednesday night

I was going to say maybe he'd start after the tour. Then I realised the tour is still on in April 2011. Bummer for him then.

So he'll either have to cancel or reschedule some dates, pissing off genuine fans - or either pre-record shows on those dates, unless the BBC insist on them live and get a guest presenter in.

doest the one show take a summer hoilday?

They came off-air in 2008 for the Beijing Olympics, but were on-air throughout the summer in 2009 (though I think WImbledon has caused a couple of shows to switch to BBC Two, and possibly one to be cancelled at short notice)

I suspect that the combination of Wimbledon and the World Cup may mean that it makes sense to rest the show for the summer period?

If that's the case it seems odd to start the new presenter in July!

The One Show should be rested much more than it is IMO - and now workaholic Adrian Chiles has gone it may be. I think though it's going off-air for the duration of the World Cup, which ties in with it returning for a new presenter in July, probably then running without a break through to Christmas.

Out of interest does Chris Evans work five days a week on BBC Radio?

I've been rather enjoying watching Matt Baker present alongside Christine the past couple of weeks. It'll be interesting to see how Jason does as a regular presenter on the show.
