Indeed it is sad news, I always thought he might end up well enough to return to Emmerdale occasionally, ordering a pint in the Woolpack once a month. He was probably one of Emmerdale's most famous actors.

This news was the lead story on tonight's Calendar.

As he was such a well loved character I think it would be appropriate for him to die in the show as well, just like Compo on Last of the Summer Wine.

I didn't see Emmerdale last night but was any reference made to his death either at the beginning or end of the programme - perhaps an "In Memory of..." still at the end!

Not last night. Don't know about tonight. Neither was any mention of Stan's passing on the ITN News either. Typical of ITV's couldn't-care-less attitude; they didn't have anything about Michael Elphick's death even though he provided them with years of good ratings as Boon.

I'm sure there was a mention on the ITV Weekend News at 6.40pm yesterday. Calendar lead with the story.

Betty received a valentine's card from Seth in tonight's Emmerdale

I think there should be a 'Stan Richards 1930 - 2005' still with a photo of him and his shotgun at the end of Friday's episode at least!

Well Simon, in the event of your untimely passing I can assure you there would be nothing short of a street party.

No offense, mind.

I'll drink to that Gavin.

A sad loss in the television industry. I believe he'd also had an illness in 1998, where Seth was supposed to be the one run over when Kim and Steve stole the horse. A last-minute rewrite had Kathy run over instead.

A well respected Yorkshireman! I have to say, however, that he never looked any different to me at all.
