Actor Stan Richards dies

Local radio has just reported the death of Barnsley-born actor Stan Richards, who played Seth Armstrong.

Widower Stan was aged 74, and died after a long illness. He has six grown-up children.

His TV credits include The Price of Coal, Stepping Out, The Cuckoo Waltz, Crown Court, All Creatures Great and Small, and Last of the Summer Wine, but he is most famous for playing Seth Armstrong in Emmerdale since 1977. His character was last seen on screen in September 2003, his absence being explained by a lengthy holiday in Australia. He has also played in the films Yanks and Agatha.

A sad sad loss.

Didn't we see him on Emmerdale recently though. He sent a webcam message to his wife, i forget her name now, when she just arrived after coming back from Australia? It was less than a month ago i'm sure.

I wonder how Emmerdale will 'write out' the character? It all depends on how long Paula Tilbrook plans to stay with the show, I guess. They might eventually send Betty back to Oz to be with Seth.

I wonder if they will do a Stan and Hilda with this, as the actor who played Stan in Coronation Street died and was eventually written out, the excuse being that he was in Hospital. I guess they'll need permission from the guy's family first.

I knew he had been ill for some time, very sad news indeed, Emmerdale has lost one of their finest IMO.

Very Sad News, I heard that Stan was ill but I hoped he might one day be well enough to return.

It will be interesting to see how they permanently write Seth out of the series.
