I wish they would bring it back - it was good to see the many different aspects of the British Isles through regional programming/presenters. I could actually see it in a Tuesday 730pm slot!
Or even better why don't S*ITV make their own version of Schofield's Europe (use Philip to the most whilst he works for the station) - again very informative and entertaining when it was on BBC1 - again possible Tuesday 730pm slot!
It was about as cheap a concept as you could hope to conceive -- repackage single regional documentaries, all shown previously in the region in question, under one strand.
One of many multi-regional strands devised by Tyne Tees in the 80s, and as a result most of them featured smaller regions, so bigger ones like Central tended not to take them so much.
Would make a good cheap filler strand today I agree, and probably would be even cheaper given that ITV is one company in England and Wales. But given ITV's attitude to regionalism recently I can't see it happening.
If I remember well it was one of the major programmes featured during ITV Daytime, during the 1980's (Pre-This Morning) when it was teamed up with The Time...The Place and some stupid US Soap!!!!!
I felt sorry for the programme. When This Morning started it was shunted to regional status. Thus the regions putting it out when they wanted to put it out. In Granadaland (oops I mean ITVGranada) it was shown during the afternoon, but eventually like all decent programmes it was shunted to Night time (about 430am in the morning before the ITN Morning News at 5am)
