What an odd life you must lead domdom. You join an internet forum specifically aimed at a subject you admit to having no affinity for, and then start a discussion about something which you claim occupies a very small portion of your busy lifestyle.

Perhaps your life isn't as busy as you seem to think it is. I suggest you try get out abit more, or join a web forum discussing a topic which interests you at least.

Actually "Gavin", the name's Mr.Kennedy. I didn't submit the petition, i'm just promoting it. You're not so clever after all, eh? Anyway, go out and get some sunshine.

Sean Paul Kennedy then. On my worst day, I'm smarter than you on your best .

I'm afraid I don't have the time to "go and get some sunshine". I have a job to do.

The fact that you don't speaks volumes.

Good day.

The fact is I don't even watch telly but I still have to pay the license fee cause I own one. I only use it to watch the odd film now and again on DVD, I wouldn't dream of sitting down and watching the mindless crap on TV, not when I've got plenty of friends, eh Gavin?

Well throw your TV away, and buy a commercial grade plasma screen with no tuner, or a computer monitor (again with no tuner) and a video to VGA box and save yourself £135

I think there a couple of points that need to stated:

A: the BBC should spend the money more wisely! there is waste that could be cut and the saving put back into the bbc, and not I don;t mean job loss's or cut in programmes:

b: maybe the BBC should put BBC4 programmes on BBC one and BBC two, as these programmes although more high class are very good I have watched some of them!

c: I wish there would stop with ideas from ITV

I think you'll find that if you write to TV Licensing and actually inform them that you don't watch any broadcast TV signals and you only watch DVDs you don't have to pay your TV License.

Anyway, that German example is a good one, they pay a license and get adverts on their services, loads of money there then! It's similar in Ireland where you have to pay a TV License and RTE has adverts.

I'm fine with the concept of the licence fee, as long as it's non-commercial. In the ROI, it's €158, but with commercials, even with the news. I think they should do what PBS in the US does, which is have little coprorate sponship "commercials" that don't even advertise anything at the begining and end of the programme, so the programme itself isn't interrupted. At least Old people get it for free.

Sorry? What are you doing here then?

Just go away, the license is not being abolished just because your state money can't afford it.

Good day.

Part of the appeal of the BBC is that there are no adverts (well, at least not during the programmes!)

The licence fee is essential to safeguard public service broadcasting in the UK - do you really want BBC1 to become ITV1, where programmes are commissioned only because they pay? That said, I still believe the license fee should be income-related and not "one size fits all".

You didn't submit the petition, so you took time out of your busy social schedule you seem to have apparently, trying to advertise a petition which you claim not to be interested about since you don't watch TV.

If you don't watch TV, as said just buy a monitor which connects directly to your DVD player, and just make sure your DVD player doesn't have a tuner in it and you're sorted. You won't have to pay the license then.

However, for some reason i don't think you actually pay a TV license. For one you say you're going out to get some sunshine, which means you're either unemployed, or a student on his easter holidays. Either way you probably wouldn't pay it anyway.

Plus in my experience, people who use the "you have no friends, i do, i'm going out to see them" insult are exactly the type of people who...well...don't!

Do me a favour, stop insulting our members, who clearly are more intelligent than you, and get lost.

In any case, in answer to your question, i think the license fee is more than worth it.

Enjoy your skin-cancer, arse-hole. I am a member of 3 online forums, including this one, I post on all of them frequently, and I still have time to have a life, which includes performing in 4 stage shows a year, and school. So leave Gavin alone, forum-users have a life as well.

I don't think they should scrap the license fee, but I certainly think it should be reduced. Sometimes, I wonder what I'm actually paying for. They should get rid of BBC Three and Four, and put their good programmes on BBC Two, to get rid of some of the **** on BBC Two, including the 250,000 cookery shows they currently air. Get rid of BBC News 24. That way, they won't have so much staff to pay, they can reduce the license fee and spend on some decent programmes.
