I would like to know peoples' views on the television license fee that we have to pay in the UK. I believe it's out-dated and should be scrapped. The BBC should get their revenue from advertisements just as the other broadcasters have to.
If you feel as strongly as I do about it then sign the online petition at the Downing Street website. Here's the link:
but I did like the sketch on Not the nine o’clock news 0 points of view saying the is not enough and I would gladly sell my house to give my money to the BBC! or the licence fee is FAR to low I thourgh you should double it!
LOL, nearly died when I saw that sketch for the first time. "I think the BBC is a load of crap"
Back on topic though.. YES YES YES YES YES
YES
YES!
- Craved in his own blood, its my ultimate political desire they should scrap it no ifs or buts it is a dated load of nonsense still wanted by a bunch of exec's who are dragging their knuckles on the ground as they walk. Time for them to come off the bottle and work in the real world.

Do your "strong feelings" extend beyond "not wanting to pay for what you get", Michael?
Perhaps you would be happy with an advertising-funded television service, in which case those with the largest shopping bills (families) will find their cost of living increasing.
Is that what you want, or is it just that you think you can get something for free?
Perhaps you could demonstrate you fabulous blue-skies thinking for us here?
OK lets have a look at the issue and compare what we pay and what we get to what happens in Europe. Germany pays €204.36/£139.34 (Source: Wikipedia) per annum. This goes to fund public service channels that also carry advertising. For that reason it would be fair to say that German people have far more right to be angry at the TV License than we do. For our annual payment of £135.50 we get 8 non-commercial channels, 10 national radio networks, numerous regional radio stations, possibly the best website in the world and a lot more beside. So please stop complaining and be glad that one of the world's most highly respected broadcasters is based in your country. Many people in other countries would pay a lot more than we do to get a BBC.
Well Gavin, you are a clever little "Forum Freak" aren't you? Let me guess, Ginger? Single? No mates?
If you're willing to debate the TV license and it's rights and wrongs then please do so. Otherwise please don't post and stop insulting other forum members
The fact is I don't even watch telly but I still have to pay the license fee cause I own one. I only use it to watch the odd film now and again on DVD, I wouldn't dream of sitting down and watching the mindless crap on TV, not when I've got plenty of friends, eh Gavin?

You're hardly best placed to opine on what is "value for money" if you don't watch the telly at all then.
I'll make a point of passing that information to the Downing Street website then, Mr Adams.
Actually "Gavin", the name's Mr.Kennedy. I didn't submit the petition, i'm just promoting it. You're not so clever after all, eh? Anyway, go out and get some sunshine.
We get eight channels and ten radio networks, with all of those (bar a few, BBC3) giving us great programming and no advertising. Some of the money also goes to Channel 4 (and other public service broadcasters) who give us some utter gems.
As for you, "domdom" (
edit:
sorry,
Mr. Kennedy
), calling Gavin "ginger", "single" and saying he has "no mates" - FYI he's got what looks like dark blonde hair (according to his avatar at Metropol, I'm not sure how up-to-date it is? Either way gingerphobia is technically racism). If you spent more time explaining your point than slagging off other, respected members then you'd create a better impression.
