ABC1 is joining Sky from Tuesday, on ch 281.

From Mon 26th Sept it's also going 24 hrs on cable and Sky, with primetime programming including Kevin Hill, Sportsnight, Less than Perfect and Hope and Faith - and from next year 8 Simple Rules and Scrubs.

That's good news, I was disappointed when it wasn't realeased to sky. Saw a million adverts for it at the time, and then nothing.

I can't wait until ABC1 launches properly on Sky Digital. I've been watching over the last couple of weeks via the Other Channels menu, but it will be a lot nicer just being able to push 3 numbers to get it! It's the only channel I can watch Home Improvement on, as I don't receive The Disney Channel on my Sky package.

I recommend Rodney as well as Home Improvement. It's on at 4pm every day.

On Digital Spy it says it will be going 24 hours on NTL, SKY and Telewest what about Freeview?.

They simply don't have the space currently - the slot is used by TeleG (Scotland) from 6-7pm then TCM on TUTV from 7pm.

Unless TUTV rejig their line up again, cutting some channels short to fit in TCM on another stream, or Disney acquire another channel (there are a rumoured two more Crown Castle slots available) it'll remain 6am-6pm I'm afraid!

(OFF TOPIC: MediaGuardian reports today Men & Motors will continue alongside ITV4, but it may lose it's slot on Freeview to ITV4!)

Hopefully a move into prime-time will see more drama on ABC1 - since Once and Again ended it's weekday run it's all comedy. Perhaps a few of ABC's more general shows would also be a good addition! (e.g. Super Millionaire!).

Its a shame that its only going to be 24 hours on those platforms. ABC 1 is has some decent programming I really want to see the thrid series of 8 Simple rules as well. I better start considering NTL or Telewest, Sky is getting too expensive!.

I'd wait if I were you, the chances are they could show the third series during the daytime as well.

One thing I had thought they could do (but wouldn't) is to kind of change the branding after 6pm so ABC1 would still be available on all platforms, but then after 6pm it becomes "ABC2" to differentiate itself.

I'm still waiting for them to launch a second channel called C2DE... (OK, old joke, done to death).

Could Sky have not put ABC1 on a more higher up EPG since, IMO, it is a major new channel to launch. I personally would have put it in the EPG slot of 137-138 since Real Time aren't going to launch any more channels with a +1 and extra service.
