Well, it's interesting to think how they fund anything. abc1 has it's ads, and Cinemagic has it's subscription, but Disney Channel and Playhouse Disney run without subscription and without ads. Also considering all these channels share the same building and playout system, I'm assuming that's any spare money left over from paying for Cinemagic and abc1 goes straight to the Disney Channels to fund them. Decides, at least abc1 have good graphics and production on their promo's, all you need to do is watch Disney Channel and all the UK made graphics and promo's are really shoddy, and it has the same team as abc1 which never made sence.

the good thing about abc1 is (at the moment) they are keeping their ads to a minimum and are playing longer idents. the amount of trails on Disney Chnl is ridiculous (with usually the same ones playing over and over again during the junctions). like you said the poor quality pres dosnt help either

abc1 have put music on the breakbumpers today

Which is badly edited IMO, just sticking either end of the ident music together and leaving them to clash like that.

ABC1 probably just about pays for itself and grabs value for money on its programming, which it airs at least four times a day and on occasion in the right order (seeing as the Home Improvement running order has been screwed up yet again (and probably other programming too)).

Disney Channel in the US doesn't receive any additional funding from adverts, but it does make all these Disney Channel Original Movies and TV programmes, so it must be receiving funding from head office and I dare say the UK versions are funded from the UK arm of the Walt Disney company. Disney makes nearly $32 billion dollars a year from everything that it does across the world so I'm sure they can afford to run six small UK television channels off one playout system even though two of them don't bring any money in on their own Smile

It may not be the same people who do the idents and trailers on both networks; may be a different team for each branch. Anyway Disney's aimed at an entirely different audience to ABC1, so the general naffness of the Disney presentation package, as opposed to the shiny presentation for ABC1, may be intentional.

I always found that Disney Channel UK did special graphics, animations, and promos to a high standard, especially when they had live studio segments (why have all channels done away with this, especially people like CBBC and Disney that should have enough money).

I did notice that at 6am yesterday morning Disney Channel used a Christmas ident to start the day, yet hasn't got any other christmas graphics throughout the presentation on any channels.

I personally think that the Disney Channel was ruined when they created abc1, not the fault of abc1, but because they took Home Improvement, 8 simple rules, etc that filled the disney channel at night and made it a family channel more than just for kids.

Cinemagic further made it worse by taking many programmes and especially films away from the disney channel.

Why they don't air there programmes across their channels, abc1 included so that each channel can have a great schedule, instead of making other channels more weak than others.

I agree that the disney channel is a much weaker channel now, but not because of abc1. with the departure of programs aimed at an older audience it meant disney chnl could focus entirely on a stonking kids schedule. after all, most people with digital tv can just switch over to abc1. what destroyed Disney chnl was cinemagic. Disney chnl of old usually had a film per day, now cinemagic takes all of the films (or all of the good ones at least) leaving poor disney chnl with the same shows everyday. Disney: you are allowed a subscription based channel still but why have one that is destroying your flagship uk channel.

Another disadvantage with Disney now is the lack of live studio presenting, which I think they ditched to better fund abc1 and such (as it did costs tons to operate). Cinemagic has killed it slightly too. I always thought they had too many films in a day, and they do have a relatively large DCOM library, but all the other Disney Channels worldwide (including the flagship US one) still broadcast normal Disney films, which Cinemagic now solely deals with.

It would also help if they sorted out the presentation too, as the production of promo's and graphics on the US Disney Channel are of a high standard, yet the UK is ditching the US graphics for it's own which are rather sloppy. They seem to have given up in a way now as they don't broadcast any idents at all now except going into some promos (such as the xmas idents going into the HSM DVD and CD promo). I also can't see why they can't switch to 16:9 either, as they have the technical capabilites (as they have done it before). All the newer DCOM's, as well as Hannah Montana, are recorded in 1080i, so they can easily be played out in widescreen. It's just other programming they would have to switch back to 4:3 for.

Disney are doing the same (although they we're the only ones until today). It doesn't seem like a mistake, as the one on Disney is dogged, and due to it being a different colour it's obviosuly been overlayed on by the producation team rather than put on by the dog gen, so this clean version has obviously been made for abc1. At the end of the day, Vanessa Anne-Hudgens is signed to Disney/Hollywood Records, and with the success of High School Musical in which she was a main star, they will use abc1 as a chance to advertise her new album.
