IIRC on DS a lot of Sky Digital subscribers were pd off because ABC1 wasnt carried on their platform...as if they have a divine right to every new channel that launches. ABC1 was designed specifically for the 6 hour Freeview slot, and if Sky Digi subscribers really want it that badly, they should spend some of the disposable income they line James Murdoch's pockets with every month on a £29 Freeview box from Asda.

What's the point of having two receivers to watch practically the same channels? Considering Sky Digital is the main platform, one expects there to be all channels available.

Sky Digital is not the main one - it is one option. In my humble opinion there is no main platform. Cable is just as extensive as Sky, whilst DTT will always be limited by bandwidth until digital switchover. I will never touch Sky with anything resembling a bargepole as long as it is owned by a man with the morals of a battered haddock.

As for reception - point taken Asa, but it is the government's obligation is it not to provide 100% uk-wide DTT coverage by 2009.

Anyway, ABC1 will still be showing the first series of 8 Simple Rules in 2009...

A boring argument from a boring "anti-Sky" idiot.

Sky is without a doubt the main platform for digital at the moment, it has the most choice, most interactive features, most availability and most advanced. How can you argue any different?

I've got both, purely so I can record one programme whilst watching another, with them both in widescreen.

I wouldn't have wanted to shell out much for the second feed, though. I just paid a few bob for an old OnDigital box after ITV Digital went under, but before Freeview came along.

That sometimes isn't the issue though. Although I can get ABC1 here in Stoke on Trent on DTT, I cannot get it back at home for four reasons:

1. DTT isn't available in my area
2. Cable isn't available in my area
3. I live in Wales, so if DTT were available, I still wouldn't get it
4. It's not on Sky.

So your £29 suggestion, although it seems value for money on the whole, wouldn't be a whole lot of good for my parents really.
