Having a bit of a late night I decided to watch ABC World News Tonight on BBC News 24, and I noticed the summary beforehand used the generic news titles, and I didnt think much of it (they're always getting the titles mixed up) until the newsreaded used the generic 'BBC News' instead of 'BBC News 24'. Later I checked the Quicktime net feed, as World News Tonight was indeed being shown on BBC World (4:3 inside a 14:9 frame, just like on BBC 1 analouge). The midway headlines were also world news instead of UK news.
So, who long has this been going on?
And why isnt BBC World showing it seperatly? (They could fit adverts in...).
Also I gather that in the US the news is delayed so it starts at 6:30 in all the timezones. Doesnt this cause trouble as BBC World is effectivley now showing the same news program as ABC, at the same time in 1 timezone (and ahead of some?) except without adverts or sponsorship! Or isnt BBC World avalible at all in the US? (I know it isnt that avalible anyway).

I'm sure Andyrew will help out here, but yes BBC World have been taking N24 at 0130B since Sept 11th for WNT. Usually World would not be allowed to re-transmit ABC in such a way, but I believe a deal has been struck between BBC & ABC so it can.
One reason why World don't transmit their own copy is due to editing time - WNT is edited slightly to lose ABC's ad breaks and for any content the BBC cannot transmit for legal reasons. The edit is done by N24 editors and depending what needs cutting may not be completed until 10-15 minutes prior to transmission. It would be impossible for a copy of the tape to be made available to World, so they take N24 output

Since WNT comes out of the Eastern time zone, it should be shown on all ABC stations in that time zone at 6:30. (I think) However, it is taped for showing on the local stations out west. Since it's taped, it doesn't really matter what time the local station shows it at. Some show it at 5:30, some at 6, and some at 6:30.

The Central Time Zone stations put WNT at 5:30pm - at the same time as the Eastern Time Zone stations. This is why there's 8/7c times announced in trailes. Central and Eastern time zones share feeds I think.
BBC World was broadcast at 6pm on a PBS station in Central Florida. I got a one hour news broadcast with Phillip Hayton while I was there. It was listed in the TV Guide as
BBC World News
. Another PBS station which I couldnt receive had
BBC News
as their listing. I still am not sure if this was the same programme or not.
I think you'll find that since Sept 11 the overnight output on BBC News 24 is mirrored on BBC World allowing for easy Breaking News ... the same programme is interupted. And as Techy Peep said WNT is edited very close to the output time ... especially when the clock all change and it is actually broadcast in the States at 0030 .. thus allowing on 30 minutes to take all the adverts out and dub it on to tape/server .... I've done it and it's v.tight!
The only restrictions for BBC World is that it is not re-broadcast in the USA. As BBC World is not full time in America it is not a problem. Fot the first couple of weeks after Sept 11, BBC America was rolling with World in the evenings (US time), we had to opt them out around 0030 GMT, and bring them back at 0100 GMT to get around this problem.
The PBS network do not take BBC World full time, and only take certain 25'30' bulliteins.
