I wonder how this would work then?

No idea, but we should be worried... "The conference, called the TV Forum".

I love the marketing explanation:
Quote:
We want to bring the audiences right to the commercial so they don’t feel they’ve gone into the commercial, Mr. Shaw said after a panel discussion at an industry conference yesterday.

At first I thought they meant subliminal messages, which I'm quite sure is illegal. Reading further through the article they have introduced some form of product placement:

Quote:
CW is selling commercials that resemble programs, with the sponsors’ products incorporated into the plots. They typically appear as a skein of three two-minute segments during commercial pods.

These use people who are in the programme. Again, something which is not allowed in this country.

Sounds like the oft-parodied olden days where the actor would walk off to the side of the set to promote the sponsors product! At least, that's how it's been presented in The Simpsons and I really hope Troy McClure hasn't been lying to me.

Hrm, how about one advert in between every scene?

Well how about having less commercial breaks, that might keep em! Or have one break between a 30min show like here, instead of 3 - 4

I think you fail to understand the premise of commercial television.

Anyway, if they come up with some form of product placement within the programme, integral to the plot, isn't that going to be a problem when the programmes are imported over here ? Or will they record separate versions ?

Well commercial tv seems to do ok here without having 3 - 4 breaks during a 30min programme.

What exactly are they doing? I read the article and I'm very confused.

As the article is a year old, have ABC implemented any of the techniques that were under consideration?
