Gavin has just said 'that was how OUR COLLEGUES at ABC showed the events'. What's the deal with BBC and ABC? Anyone explain?

I think there is simply a 'special deal' between BBC <> ABC, like FOX <> Sky and well ITN <> Anybody else!

ABC and the BBC just have a new gathering agreement -- they can use each other's correspondent's reports or live coverage when waranted -- stuff like that…PBS also has an agreement with the beeb

The difference between Fox and Sky, is that are owned by the same company: News Corporation (I think News Corp owns a large portion of Sky, maybe not the whole thing, but i dunno) -- so they, of course, have a joint partnership

NBC and CNN have an agreement with ITN (as do many other news organisations here)

Something that's just interesting, is that there was an agreement between ALL news networks here to jointly, freely use eachother's reports and information if they needed to -- this only happens in MAJOR news events.

Originally, and for many years, the BBC and NBC had a newsgathering and news sharing agreement. The news video agency VISNEWS was originally a joint company of the BBC, NBC and REUTERS. Reuters then bought the other companies out, I believe, and it became the REUTERS video agency.

The BBC then moved to closely working with ABC News instead. I believe the BBC does have some agreements with NBC and CBS, but ABC are their major partners stateside.

BBC News 24 shows ABC World News Tonight daily (minus the ad breaks and sponsorship bumpers) and ABC Correspondents reports and live spots are seen on BBC News 24 (and also occasionally BBC One in the case of lives - the Six has used ABC US correspondents before)

However I believe that ABC material cannot be used as widely on BBC World - where it may be seen in the US. (Though I may be wrong about this - ISTR that ABC lives overnight were only carried in the UK only segments of the joint service - in the days when 0130-0200 and 0530-0600 were UK news back half hours - rather than ABC World News Tonight / The World Today)

I believe ABC take packages from the BBC in a similar manner.

Peter Jennings welcomed News 24 viewers at the end of one of the first shows broadcast in the UK!

Does this special agreement mean that News 24 shows World News Tonight with Peter Jennings? I never knew that before.

What does ABC stand for? American Broadcasting Company?

ABC also stands for top quality programming and the highest quality of news Smile

I'll agree with that, I never miss ABC World News Tonight with Peter Jennings. It's a good show.

Depending on where you live. Some stations air BBC World News, but a lot of major PBS stations air ITN World News with Dajit Dhaliwal. PBS only has one major domestic newscast - the Newshour - and I think its British source is ITN.

The split of PBS stations taking ITN World News and BBC World News is approx 50/50 I believe.

The BBC World News coverage in the US is co-ordinated by WLIW, one of the New York PBS stations I believe.

Incidentally, a number of PBS stations in the US, as well as The Learning Channel (a Discovery channel in the US), Discovery and Animal Planet in Latin America simulcast BBC World for longer periods during the events on Tuesday. The Learning Channel also took Newsnight.

Unfortunately, the split b/w BBC World & ITN on PBS stations is much broader than that. About half the stations take ITN, and only a couple of dozen stations take BBC World. (They're listed on BBC World's web site)

ABC & BBC have had a content-sharing agreement for the past year or so. BBC stories appear on World News Tonight regularly.

I also beleve ABC and BBC had a joint studio in the World trade center, didnt they?
Because isnt this where the world bussiness reports came from?

At one point the BBC had two quite sizeable operations in New York.

There was the BBC New York Office, and the BBC New York Business Office. (The NY Office housed the studio for the daily USA Directs on News 24, but was scaled down a year or two ago)

I believe the BBC now broadcast World Biz Report from a studio adjacent to Times Square, and this may well be in the Reuters building. This may have either moved, or been re-built, as the backdrop has changed very recently to include the huge NASDAQ video wall.

The old BBC New York office may have been in space let from ABC - I'm not sure. I do know the BBC uses ABC facilities in LA - occasional lives have come from an ABC Newsroom in LA.
