One thing I noticed is the lack of regional news on todays line up. So much for local community television.

Wishing you all a Happy New Year

Hmm.....

Today In 1992

3.45 Kevin Whatley

Today in 2001

3.45 John Thaw

INSPECTOR MORSE and the idea of pitting on the drama at 3.45?

Kinda weird.

If you haven't yet discovered 'Off the Telly', then there history of New Year's Eve TV will give you a good feel for the site.

http://web.ukonline.co.uk/ott/newyearseve.htm

Excerpt: 'A further problem for the third channel was that the ITV franchises ran up until New Year's Eve, meaning that on more than one occasion regional companies were going off the air that night. Thus in 1981, viewers in the South of England were offered up an excellent New Year's entertainment, seeing the chairman of Southern Television make a nasty, bitter speech about how awful the IBA had been and Richard Stilgoe performing a song slagging off TVS, the new franchise holder (whom he dubbed 'Portakabin TV'). Happy new year to you, too. Similarly, but with rather more dignity, Richard Dunn said goodbye from all the staff at Thames on New Year's Eve 1992.'
