... or, more interestingly, the lack of them! (June 2011)

The only reason I ask is that it's not there - or at least not visible - on Google Street View, and that's very recent!

Yes, Streetview still has the scaffolding up outside. The photo I posted is from the building owners/letters I think. I think you're probably right with the Olympic thing

Definitely no sign of separate announcements in Border or Tyne Tees, mind you not much sign of commercials in the early days of Channel 4 in Border, remember those interval slides all the time, used to wonder why they only had two pieces of music though

Actually I definitely remember one occasion in 1987 when the announcement was regionalised... I live in an overlap area between YTV and Tyne Tees, and the C4 announcer seemed to be announcing a programme on t'other side that I knew to be regional (I think it was Athletics that was on at a different time in the NE to Yorkshire for reasons I forget now). I happened to be beside the TV at the time and I switched to Channel 8 where C4 Emley was tuned in and, sure enough, they were announcing a different programme.

If I am being honest I do not recall if it was TTTV or YTV that were the oddball in this case, and both announcements were done by Channel 4 by the duty announcer. One of the stations had clearly acquired a tape recording of the alternative announcement.
